Synopsis[]
The episode begins with SpongeBob playing with the zoo animals at the Bikini Bottom Zoo until the zookeeper stops him from doing so, telling him it's illegal to sneak into the animal enclosures because the animals are not pets and could get him injured. SpongeBob is against this, because he is friends with the animals, so the zookeeper puts an ankle alarm on him to prevent him from going into the animal enclosures, which will go off should he do it again. SpongeBob tries to evade this by keeping the foot with the ankle alarm outside the enclosures, but this fails and he gets kicked out of the zoo, with Patrick sneaking into a sea monkey enclosure so he gets kicked out with him.
SpongeBob is crying on Patrick's rock, until he gets the idea of building a bubble zoo after creating a snot bubble. They create many bubble animals as well as the zoo itself using Extra Strength Bubble Soap. The zoo is visited by many people and it is a success.
Meanwhile, Squidward wakes up from his nap and goes outside, only to get trapped inside one of the bubble animals. After he is released, one of the bubble animals eats his clothes, causing Squidward to panic and pop the entire bubble zoo. The bubble animals get angry at SpongeBob and at the same time, invade the Krusty Krab and the Chum Bucket.
While SpongeBob and Patrick are cornered by the bubble animals, the former calls the animals from the real zoo to defeat the bubble animals. The animals come and the bubble animals get scared by the sea monster, causing them to hide in the Extra Strength Bubble Soap canister. The episode ends with the zoo manager letting SpongeBob back in the zoo for bringing back his animals as well as bringing new bubble animals.

Trivia[]
General[]
- This episode was originally going to be titled "Zoo Are You."[15]
- Adam Paloian and Kaz also referred to this episode as "Who Are Zoo."[11][21]
- This is the first episode to have a 2020 copyright date.
- Throughout its run in 2020 and 2021, this episode has been paired up with different episodes, mainly because of how Nickelodeon withheld its sister episode until April 29, 2022. As of May 14, 2022, this episode is now paired up with "Kwarantined Krab."[22]
- During the original airing, it was paired up with "Biddy Sitting,"[23] and again during the Patrick Stars & Stripes Weekend marathon.[24]
- This episode was paired up with "FarmerBob" when it aired on February 25, 2021.[25]
- For the Every SpongeBob Ever marathon on Nicktoons, it was paired up with "Lighthouse Louie," and again for the June 19, 2021 airing on Nickelodeon.[26]
- This episode was paired up with "Feral Friends" during the SpongeBob Code-Catcher Challenge.
- This was the last episode with any involvement from Adam Paloian. However, he did not direct this episode, instead providing pre-visual development and character design.[11]
- Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller directed this episode instead.[6]
- The reason they were only credited as co-executive producers is likely due to the fact that credits do not list a crew member's name twice beginning in season 12. This can be seen with all of the storyboard-driven episodes post-"The String."
- Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller directed this episode instead.[6]
- Squidward wears underwear in this episode, when he regularly does not even wear pants. However, he wore them underneath his farmer's uniform which doubled as regular pants.
- When this episode premiered in the UK and Ireland, a frame from its sister episode, "Kwarantined Krab," was accidentally shown at the end.
- The title card's background has a similar color scheme to its sister episode, "Kwarantined Krab."
- This is the last season 12 episode to air in the USA without getting released early somewhere else.
- This episode along with "Lighthouse Louie" are in PAL pitch in UK/Ireland airings, despite every other season 12 episode airing in NTSC.[27]
- The sea elephant has two different designs that vary throughout the episode, a cartoonish one seen at the start and a more realistic one later on.
Episode references[]
- The "Species Unknown" area from "The Thing" can be seen in this episode.
- Some of the bubble animals shown in this episode have appeared previously. They are as follows:
- The elephant bubble
- The duck bubble
- The bubble hippo
- The Extra Strength Bubble Soap is similar to the Jumbo Bubble Fun from "It Came from Goo Lagoon," as both are giant bubble canisters.
- A pencil that resembles the magic pencil from "Frankendoodle" and "Doodle Dimension" is among the many items seen in the live-action close-up of Old Man Walker's box.
Cultural references[]
- At the beginning of the episode, SpongeBob yells like Tarzan.
- The See 'n Say pull-string toy produced by Mattel is referenced in the scene where SpongeBob identifies the zoo animals and they make noises similar to the animals on the toy.
- The episode title is a play on the phrase "who are you?"
- As the bubble penguins swarm the interior of the Chum Bucket, Plankton says "For hate's sake! I spit my last breath at thee!" This is a direct quote from the 1851 novel Moby-Dick by Herman Melville.
Errors[]
- When SpongeBob pets the zoo monster, the spiked ball on its antennae is red, but when the monster scares the bubble animals near the end of the episode, the ball is purple.
- When SpongeBob lets a kid inside of the Bubble Zoo, his eyelashes are missing.
- The Krusty Krab is thinner than usual in this episode.
- When SpongeBob is about to get on the bubble giraffe, his shirt turns yellow for a frame.
- When he is on the bubble giraffe, his tooth turns yellow for a frame.
