Weezer is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1992. Since 2001, the band has consisted of Rivers Cuomo (lead vocals, lead guitar, keyboards), Patrick Wilson (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Brian Bell (rhythm guitar, backing vocals, keyboards), and Scott Shriner (bass, backing vocals, keyboards).

Weezer performed the song "It's Always Summer in Bikini Bottom," which was created for and appears in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run and its subsequent The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). Weezer's cover of the A-ha song "Take On Me" also appears at the end of the film.

Biography[]

Vocalist and guitarist Rivers Cuomo moved from Connecticut to Los Angeles in 1989 with his high school metal band, which soon disbanded, causing him to meet future-bandmate Patrick Wilson. Cuomo moved in with Wilson and Wilson's friend Matt Sharp. Cuomo and Wilson would form several bands together, one of which ("Sixty Wrong Sausages") would include Jason Cropper on guitar.

Cuomo would later move to Santa Monica, California, where he would record dozens of demos, including future Weezer songs such as "Undone – The Sweater Song." Sharp liked the demos, and became the group's de-facto manager and bassist. Weezer was officially formed by Cuomo, Wilson, Sharp, and Cropper on February 14, 1992, taking the name from a nickname Rivers Cuomo was given by his father.

Brian Bell would join the group in 1993, Mikey Welsh in 1998, and Scott Shriner in 2001. Jason Cropper would leave the group after just a year in 1993, followed by Matt Sharp's departure in 1997 and Mikey Welsh in 2001, ten years before his death in 2011.

Weezer has released fifteen albums and nine extended plays since their self-titled debut (also known as the Blue Album) in 1994.
