"We ♥ Hoops" is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season 14. In this episode, SpongeBob and Patrick discover that their favorite Kelpbed Kid is a familiar face.

Synopsis[]
SpongeBob and Patrick are watching an old cartoon: The Kelpbed Kids. In the episode, the Kelpbed Kids are intimidated by a bully named Ajax into revealing where their hidden candy is. When a younger Mrs. Puff reveals that it's in the cabinet, Ajax opens it and finds that Hoops has already eaten all of it. Before Ajax can attack GrandPat, Hoops throws a hula hoop over Ajax, trapping him. He frees his friends and they cheer for him.
SpongeBob and Patrick go to Hoops' house.
SpongeBob and Patrick declare Hoops their favorite Kelpbed Kid and take out their own adjustable hoops, just like his. Patrick's hoop goes on his eyes and he notices Hoops' address. SpongeBob and Patrick go to visit, and find Old Man Walker's house on the spot. Too afraid to knock on the door, they run behind the house. Old Man Walker comes outside and checks his mail, getting none because Patrick has eaten it. SpongeBob takes a letter out of Patrick's mouth and realizes that it is addressed to Hoops. He looks through the window and sees Kelpbed Kids merchandise in the house.
After SpongeBob and Patrick go inside the house, Walker traps them in hoops and approaches them. When SpongeBob says they are there to meet Hoops, Walker confirms his identity. SpongeBob and Patrick do not believe it until they see Walker quote Hoops' catchphrase. They hear a noise outside, and find Ajax egging the house with a tank. Walker explains that Ajax has gotten older and still harasses him. Patrick gets the idea to get revenge on him.
SpongeBob, Patrick, and Hoops battle Ajax.
SpongeBob and Patrick gather materials and build a tank, riding it with Walker over to Shady Shoals Rest Home. They fire a variety of food, and a sea cow, out of their tank to attack Ajax. He fights back with his eggs and they end up spinning around throughout town. When they drive off a cliff, the tank crashes, but Walker uses his propeller cap and two hoops to save SpongeBob and Patrick. Ajax leaves and swears revenge, while SpongeBob and Patrick cheer at the adventure they have had. Suddenly, Hoops drops them by mistake.

- According to King, Ajax McGee's appearance in The Kelpbed Kids cartoon did not have the classic cartoon character "pie-eyes" in his plussed storyboards, but Eliza Herndon added them in when they were revised.[1]

- On Nickelodeon, this episode was originally going to premiere at 5:00 PM, but it was moved to 4:00 PM.
Simulcasting. By the time Nickelodeon had started the episode, Nicktoons was already airing it.
- This episode's premiere, alongside the other three in its premiere week, were simulcasted on Nicktoons.[5] Due to Nicktoons' spacings of commercial breaks, the episode effectively debuted on that network first.
- This episode was paired up with a rerun of "Buff for Puff" during the original airing.[6]
- This episode was originally titled "We Heart Hoops" before having the word "heart" be changed into the heart symbol. However, the on-screen credits, the full official credits, TV listings, and iTunes[7] still use the original name.
- SpongeBob and Patrick's scream at the end of this episode when Hoops accidentally drops them down was reused from "Scavenger Pants."
- This episode has a similar plot to "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy," "Goofy Scoopers," and "Sir Urchin and Snail Fail," as all four revolve around SpongeBob and Patrick wanting to bring their favorite celebrities back to their former glory.
- Andy Gonsalves, one of the writers of "The Lil' Patscals," from which this episode's plot is based on, was never told this episode was being made.[8]
- This is the second episode to have a heart icon in the title. The first was "I ♥ Dancing."

- Old Man Walker lives in the same house and is quite sad about never seeming to get any mail just like in "Patrick the Mailman," although unlike that episode, he actually does have mail, as Patrick gets it for him and he can't see it.
- Old Man Walker's childhood identity being Hoops references The Patrick Star Show episode "The Lil' Patscals."
- The bridge from "Goofy Scoopers" returns twice, as the tricycle parade group and SpongeBob, Patrick, and Old Man Walker fall down it just like various Bikini Bottomite citizens did in that episode.

The outline for Patrick's right eye is incorrectly colored.
- When SpongeBob is hesitant to knock on Hoops' door, the outline for Patrick's right eye is colored pink instead of black for a few frames.
- When Old Man Walker calls SpongeBob and Patrick "a couple of dizzy ding dongs," his second tooth disappears when he closes his mouth.
