Hey-er-er, it's PlanKrab. After some thought, I decided to take a long break from ESB. I haven't edited on ESB very much since late April because of a lack of interest. At first, I thought it had to do with school, but I am on summer break now and still have no interest in editing at the moment.
I lost interest in ESB because compared to what it used to be in 2019 and even early 2020, it appears less friendly. There have been a lot more trolls and users starting drama in the last two months especially. Also, I remember that I used to be able to talk about SpongeBob, the wiki, or even other subjects with people on their message walls or in chat. Now, I really just can't do that. Some other users will see the thread and change the subject. This isn't always a bad thing, as sometimes it is fun to have large conversations, but I do miss when the wiki seemed simpler.
Also, probably the biggest issue I have with ESB nowadays is that the social environment is less friendly than it used to be. Lately, I've been seeing more people with really crazy and unpopular opinions on ESB. It isn't a bad thing at all to have unpopular opinions- in fact it is pretty interesting to talk about them. However, lately I have noticed that users will seem to be too arrogant about their opinions, saying things like "imagine considering this episode good" or "No, that is wrong this episode is overrated". I've seen these kinds of comments on a lot of people's reviews lately and while they are sometimes jokes, I really just don't like it. What happened to "I dislike this episode because (insert reasoning) but I respect your opinion."? I probably am sounding a bit nitpicky, but I really am discouraged from sharing any opinions about SpongeBob because of this, and because opinions are the main thing people talk about on the social side of ESB, I really never know what to say. Again, I am not trying to offend anyone- this is just the main reason I don't feel as comfortable on ESB as I used to.
I also know that there are other things to do on the wiki, and for that I just think I have lost interest- nothing else really. When I return from my wikibreak I will likely try to make more mainspace edits, but right now I'm finding it hard to do because I'm just not very interested. It's a similar case with chat and forums.
So I've decided to take a wikibreak for now. I don't know how long it will last, but my guess is that I will return in around late June or early July. I won't be editing hardly at all until I'm ready to come back. I just really need a break.
