What was the point of releasing my series ranking if I’m continuing to change some of my opinions?

PEAS IN A CAN PIE.

Texas 063

My favorite thing about this episode has got to be the Texas song. Everything from the nice visuals to the catchy country music and to Sandy’s heartfelt and passionate singing voice. The lyrics are also memorable and sort of sad. Hearing Sandy say things like “When I’m so far from you, Texas, all I can do is cry.” is a pretty emotional line and it really hits me hard with the fact that Sandy is severely homesick. Anyways, the song isn’t the only good thing about this episode. The comedy of this episode is pretty alright. I really like jokes such as SpongeBob flipping over a WHALE onto the ground, the two fish using their Krabby Patties as tissues during Sandy’s musical number, and one of the funniest scenes in the entire season, in my opinion:

Texas 020

SpongeBob and Patrick mocking Texas and people who live there or are from there. I have loved this scene ever since I was a kid. If you don’t know, I am actually a Texan, and seeing SpongeBob and Patrick insult my home state by speaking in stupid Texan accents and saying things like “HOWDY Y’ALL” just makes me laugh hysterically. I guess it’s the awesome line deliveries or the lines themselves that make me laugh so hard. I don’t exactly know, but what I do know is that this scene never fails to make at least smile.

Texas 119

The best thing about this episode, however, is the ending. We get to see a pretty fun chase scene with rock explosions and karate chopping. But after that, we’re greeted with the Bikini Bottomites hosting a Texas-themed party at the Krusty Krab just for Sandy. The party had everything Sandy said she missed in her song, but they misinterpret what she said. Instead of square dancing, they literally had people dancing while holding a giant CUBE. Instead of having a barbeque, they have a BARBY Q. Instead of having pecan pie, they have PEAS IN A CAN PIE. These are not only really funny moments, but they’re also touching to see because the Bikini Bottomites cared enough about Sandy to host this party for her.

The episode ends on a pretty nice moral: “home isn't about barbecues and pecan pies, home is where you're surrounded by critters that care about ya.” and that’s Texas. This was a fantastic episode in my opinion because of solid comedy, a spectacular song, nice moral, and a heartwarming and touching ending. Not one of the best of season 1, but still pretty awesome.

Texas: Fantastic (14/16)

Walking Small[]

This episode was so much fun. It’s one of my favorite episodes of the season, in fact.

Walking Small 054

The thing I love the most about this episode is the comedy, because it’s really great here. A few of the gags come from SpongeBob misinterpreting things Plankton said in the funniest ways possible. One of my favorite gags of the episode is Plankton telling SpongeBob to let the guy who stole his ice cream “have it”, so SpongeBob ends up allowing the guy to have his ice cream. Another gag I love from this episode is SpongeBob misunderstanding the word “assertive” as “insertive” by sticking his finger in another dude’s pocket. Then there’s the gag of Plankton telling SpongeBob that he has no idea how to be a “stand-up guy”, which encourages SpongeBob to start making jokes about airline food like a stand-up comedian.

Walking Small 150

There are a lot of other gags that don’t have to do with SpongeBob misunderstanding Plankton. I really like other jokes like Plankton asking SpongeBob if he got an all-over tan, and SpongeBob responding with “Well, not all of me.”, the visual gag of SpongeBob acting like an elephant, and SpongeBob telling Plankton that using somebody for land development isn’t nice. This episode also teaches a pretty solid lesso. Being assertive may get you what you want, but in the end, it won’t get you friends.

I also like Plankton’s role in this episode. Just like in Plankton, he seemed like an actual intimidating villain who could still get some pretty goofy lines or funny moments in general. In short, I love this episode mainly for comedy reasons because I think this episode is hilarious. It has a good moral too, but it’s mainly the comedy I love here.

Walking Small: Awesome (15/16)
