E, is this review series still a thing?

So...wow. I found this episode bad. I FOUND THIS EPISODE SECOND WORST. And let me just say, if you were expecting me to rant on and on about this episode, you are WRONG. This episode was...kinda enjoyable. No, it’s not 19/19, sorry <insert name here>. Let’s start with the positives. This episode does have a great atmosphere at times. It’s pretty calm and the music is nice. There are some good jokes, like SpongeBob doing loud work right after saying how peaceful it is, Patrick and the quarter, and the good timing of Patrick saying “good morning.” Also, the technique was fun. I liked it, it was amusing and the animation was pretty good. I liked Squidward’s version too.

However, the episode isn’t perfect. First of all, repeating the technique was just pointless. I liked Squidward’s variation because it was different but SpongeBob just repeats the exact same thing. If something long has already been explained to a viewer and needs to be explained to a character, you don’t need to repeat the entire thing to the audience where the only major change is the fact it shows Squidward’s reaction. Also, this episode has one major problem that just sticks out like a really, really sore thumb: the spitting scenes. I mean, the show would later have much worse scenes involving saliva, but nobody wants to see a good two collective minutes of Patrick and Squidward failing to blow bubbles in the most annoying way possible. It’s just dumb and adds nothing of interest to the plot, while also being one of the series’ most annoying scenes.

So as you can see, I really promoted this one. I don’t exactly know how, maybe the fact my appreciation for season 1 has grown changed my liking for this one or something. Overall, while this one has its problems, it’s not one I wouldn’t go back to.

Good (8/13)

Ripped Pants[]

"That was too funny. You are hilarious!" ~Scooter

How perfect that quote is, since Ripped Pants is one of the most hilarious episodes in SpongeBob. I liked the technique in Bubblestand, but as I said before, they don’t need to just copy and paste it. Repeating the joke is not funny. And this episode is intentionally about repeating jokes. I didn’t expect to love this, but the thing is, they do variations on it. They do different jokes everywhere SpongeBob goes and I love every single one of them and the crew does a great job making the jokes never feel too stretched out. They’re all clever and do their own things, and don’t annoy me at all. The sand jokes in the beginning are also hilarious. The moral in this one rocks too. They really explain it in a fun way instead of just saying the lesson. First we have everyone leave SpongeBob (even his pants in a great joke), then he learns he’s not alone where we get even more jokes, and then there’s one of the most spectacular songs in the show. ‘’Ripped Pants’’ is super entertaining and catchy. Overall, I love this episode a lot, as it does a lot with its story while also managing to make a whole lot of jokes.

PERFECT! (13/13)
