2021 (MMXXI) was a common year starting on Friday of the Gregorian calendar. This year, the third movie (The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run) was released digitally in the United States on March 4, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year a total of 51 episodes premiered across all three shows. 24 in Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years, 14 in The Patrick Star Show, and 13 in the original series, making it tie with 2005 and 2020 in terms of numbers of new episodes in the original series.

Much like 2020 is that the year starts off with two episodes premiered on January 18. "The SpongeBob SportsPants Countdown Special" is the only SpongeBob related media to get over a million U.S. viewers during the year. When "Lighthouse Louie" premiered its partner episode "Hiccup Plague," didn't air for a year and three months until April 22, 2022.

This year also marks the third and fourth times that Nickelodeon aired no SpongeBob SquarePants-related material in a single day on the main channel since July 7, 2007. The show did air on Nicktoons, however.
