  • A lot of SpongeBob fans have been dying to have Heavy Iron Studios make another SpongeBob game and they have recently been sending e-mails to them and posting on their Facebook page. Some people are even suggesting the idea of a kickstarter. Heavy Iron is showing us support by responding to our comments and e-mails, telling how kind we are, and liking our Facebook posts. So Heavy Iron is interested in a Battle for Bikini Bottom HD remake and sequel, and we too can help! I have included some related petitions below:

Change.org - Create a remastered edition of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

Change.org - Create a faithful sequel to Battle for Bikini Bottom

GoPetition - Make SpongeBob SquarePants HD Remaster Video Game Collection for PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U and 3DS

Change.org - Give Heavy Iron Studios the rights to make Spongebob Squarepants video games

Hopefully, if we give them enough support, we will get a Battle for Bikini Bottom HD remake/sequel!

    • I hated the episode. I'm not sure if the 2 are different. I never played the game, if it's based off the episode, I won't.

    • Hmmm... interesting.

Yep. They're interested, but how will they be able to get the license to fully be able to do so?

The fans are lucky that Heavy Iron cares about them, and we can do all sorts of things to help (Trending on Twitter, Facebook, E-Mails, etc.), but Activision is still a little obsticle in our way, because they own the license.

It's not really based on the episode, so yes. They are different.

Yes I am. I do agree that Heropants was an atrocity. I took inspiration from your YouTube videos, while kinda plagurizing them and not giving credit. (So, I'm kinda sorry?)

Will you be able to review the Truth or Square game adaptation soon? Would love to see you do that.

I'm sure you might have saw me post this on Google+ already, but I e-mailed Heavy Iron asking them if they can make a Sponge Out Of Water video game (despite how late they could be in making it) if they ever get back the licence and I also asked them if Squidward and Mr. Krabs can be playable characters if a Battle for Bikini Bottom HD remake or sequel is made. They responded by saying:

"Thanks for all your kind words about our SpongeBob video games, we're so glad you liked them!

Much like ours, the SpongeBob universe is ever-expanding, and we all hope the future holds a lot more TV episodes, movies, and games for our favorite underwater fry cook. All we can say is that if the day ever comes that we are involved in another SpongeBob game, we promose to make it as awesome as we can!

We appreciate you taking the time to sign those fan-made petitions, and maybe someday we'll be involved in the wonderful world of SpongeBob again."

So they're always up for anything SpongeBob, including a game based on Sponge Out Of Water. If they can make the game when they get the licence back, I would know that I would absolutely love it.

It's all good, man. I like how a lot of SpongeBob fans watch my videos.

I'm a little iffy about a Sponge Out of Water video game because HeroPants killed all of the excitement for an awesome movie tie-in. By the time Heavy Iron makes one the new SpongeBob movie will be over a year old and no one's gonna wanna buy it since the hype train for the new movie will be over and another game would just confuse people. I know it'd be nice seeing the new movie have an awesome video game to go with it because there are so many ideas that could be implemented. The concept had a lot of potential, but Activision killed the dream already. In SpongeBob CrapPants you can't even go out of water, so I wonder what Behaviour Interactive was thinking making another disguised PS2 game, lol. I blame Activision because it's not likely they provided them with many resources.

I'm all up for the Battle for Bikini Bottom sequel though, but since the game is about 12 years old now it'd be best they don't call it "Battle for Bikini Bottom 2" and just name it something different and let it still be a sequel. That way the game will sell like hot cakes.

I happened to glance over your YouTube comment on my video about you emailing Heavy Iron. Thank you for sharing their response.

As for a Truth or Square review, I'd love to make more SpongeBob reviews at some point. Right now I'm affiliated with some real-life issues so that's why I don't post videos very often, but when I have the free time I'll be sure to consider it.

Off-Topic question, but what do you use to record gameplay footage for your videos? The footage does look pretty glorious.

I use an Elgato Game Capture HD, but I render with a higher bit rate so it still maintains the same quality as the raw footage.

For my older videos I used an Hauppauge HD PVR.

That would be interesting. It sucks that it most likely never will happen.

Sadly I have yet to find out who actually composed the soundtrack.

    • Heavy Iron Studios have been great with working on licensed games in the past, and BFBB is their crowning achievement, not to mention one of my favorite games of all time, so playing and HD update (with new features hopefully) on my friggin' PS4 as well as a damned sequel on the same console sounds so amazing, I would be pumped!

The episode "Battle of Bikini Bottom" was aired in 2007. The game "Battle for Bikini Bottom" was released in 2003. The two are completely different, and BFBB is thought to be the best SpongeBob game out there by many.

    • I would honestly prefer if Creature From the Krusty Krab were to get a sequel, as it is my favorite Spongebob game of all time. However, that will never happen because Blitz games went out of business a while ago. As for Heavy Iron Studios, I have to admit, the thought of them getting to create a new game, would certainly be exciting, but I really, really don't think Activision will ever let them. Remember, Activision doesn't really listen to gamers. More often than not, they release what are essentially unfinished games, with plans of selling the rest to players in the form of DLC. For people like me, who don't have an an internet connection on their gaming systems, whatever game I buy, I can't get DLC for it, assuming there's DLC even coming out for that game. Activision released Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 a while ago, and that game really wasn't finished. It didn't look all that graphically impressive, not to mention it was filled with glitches. Or, how about the situation with Destiny. It's believed that Activision shipped the game out with pieces of the story removed for DLC. Not only that, but they also picked up the Crash Bandicoot lisence years back, and only released 2 games, and the last crash game was released in 2008, seven years ago. There have also been numerous cancelled crash bandicoot titles such as Crash Landed, and Crash Team Racing 2010. They also have the Spyro videogame lisence, and all they did was put him in Skylanders. The last 2 SpongeBob games have been unfinished, graphically unimpressive, repetitive, and generally uninteresting. This probably means that Activision gave Behavior Interactive, the developers of the last 2 Spongebob games, very little development time, or a very small budget to make the games, or it could've even been both of those reasons. If this is true, then that means that Activision really doesn't care that much about the quality of their games, and they especially wouldn't want to spend enough money for Heavy Iron Studios to develop a new game. However, in a perfect world, if all the stars and planets were to align in a perfect way, and Activision were to actually let Heavy Iron Studios make a new SpongeBob game, I honestly don't know what I would think of that. While I do consider Battle For Bikini Bottom and the SpongeBob movie game to be good games, they aren't without their flaws. Battle For Bikini Bottom is littered with all kinds of poor level design choices. There are sections in Battle for Bikini Bottom, mainly the wall jumping sections in the Flying Dutchman's graveyard, where I died so many times because I couldn't situate my jumps properly. There is also the Kelp Forest which is such a dark and visually uninteresting level, with so many tricky jumps. Not to mention the rolling ball section in the mermalair, and the bad enemy placement in some parts of the mermalair in general, which only add to the sense of aggravation that battle for Bikini Bottom has the potential to inflict upon the player. I honestly didn't even complete the mermalair and kelp forest levels when I beat the game. The SpongeBob movie game's main issue is how much it makes you backtrack. Once I finished a level, I was told that to get the ability needed for the next one, I needed to get more goofy goober tokens. This wouldn't be so bad if it didn't happen so frequently. Having to backtrack to earlier levels so often is a complete pace breaker and something that I wouldn't really consider to be a good design choice. Despite those issues, Battle for Bikini Bottom and the Spongebob movie game were received very positively, with those two games gaining cult following throughout the years. However, everybody seems to forget about Truth or Square, which was also developed by Heavy Iron Studios. That game was received rather negatively, which could be a possible indicator of Heavy Iron Studios losing their "touch" when it comes to SpongeBob games. I did enjoy Truth or Square quite a bit, but I agree in saying that it's the weaker game of the three. The main problem with Truth or Square is how incredibly linear and smaller the levels are, or at least in comparison to the earlier Heavy Iron SpongeBob games. Aside from that, that's my only major gripe with the game, and even then, it's more of a nitpick. I still consider Truth or Square too be a good game, but it's just not as fun as the first two games. on Heavy Iron Studios Facebook page, I see fans thanking them for making Battle For Bikini Bottom and The SpongeBob Movie Game, but they never even mention Truth or Square. Doesn't that say anything to you? So if Activision were to allow Heavy Iron studios to make a new game, they probably wouldn't give them a big enough budget, and the game most likely won't be received as well as the first two games. Or even if they do give them a big enough budget, Heavy Iron Studios might still make something that just won't be received as well as their first two achievements. Keep in mind, a lot of the people who love Battle for Bikini Bottom and the Movie game who are asking them to make a new game, have probably played those two games when they were children, so they have nostalgia for them. If a new SpongeBob game were to be made, no matter how good it is, it would still face the harsh reality of being labeled as a licensed game, and having other gamers who bandwagon on the stereotype view it as, not being worth their time, simply because it's a licensed game. Even if it manages to be a great game, many gamers would probably say, "Yeah, for a lisenced game, it's pretty good." But Heavy Iron studios could still create something that will be beloved just as their first two games, and could even help put an end to the stereotype all together. All they have to do is create a great game, which they could, but judging by the less than stellar reception of Truth or Square, they obviously have their work cut out for them. I know a new SpongeBob game is coming because a third SpongeBob movie has been confirmed for 2019, and Activision will probably enlist the skills of a game development company to create something to tie in with the new movie. If it's good then great, but if it's bad, then it won't surprise me. But I honestly think that Heavy Iron Studios will not be the ones to make that game, and Truth or Square will probably be the last SpongeBob game that will be graced by the Heavy Iron logo. But keep in mind that all of this is just my opinion, and I'm not trying to hurt or offend anyone with what I'm saying.

For the most part I agree, Activision has been struggling with their stuff for a while now. But I doubt that people would say the sequel was "good for a licened game" as that old stereotype is starting to meet its end with releases like Alien: Isolation, Shadows of Mordor, Stick of Truth, and Star Wars Battlefront to some extent, despite it being a very lackluster title. Also, keep in mind that good developers can make bad games. Even Nintendo has cracked out some pretty weak games. Truth or Square could've been a hiccup in an otherwise shining licence game developer. Or maybe it was a game they didn't even want to work on given Truth or Square's quality as a "movie". Besides, I would just be happy with the idea of a beautiful HD remake for PS4. I would pick that up in a heartbeat and it wouldn't even be that hard to make so long as it doesn't turn into another Silent Hill HD Collection. All in all, we'll just have to wait and see. If the sequel does come out, who knows! It could be the first AAA kids game to be released on a consol outside of the Wii-U.

    • You have some good points. I know that not all gamers still bandwagon on the stereotype that all licensed games are bad, but I'm certain that there are still a good number of them out there that do, despite all those games you mentioned. I personally loved the Stick of Truth, and I'm looking foreward to its sequel. Alien: Isolation was okay. I couldn't continue playing it any longer than I did because for some reason, it kept making me naseous. It's weird because no other game I've played has had the affect on me. Anyway, I was trying to say that I'm worried that Heavy Iron Studios won't be able to make a game as good as their two other titles, mostly due to Activision. The publisher might not give them a big enough budget, or even a long enough development window to make a game of that caliber. Even if Activision did supply them with everything they needed, I'm still not so sure. They made Truth or Square and like I said, I consider that game to be good, but not as good as Battle For Bikini Bottom, The SpongeBob Movie Game, or even my favorite SpongeBob game, Creature From the Krusty Krab. Trust me, I want a new SpongeBob game just as much as the next guy, and while I think Heavy Iron is a great developer, there's just this lingering thought at the back of my head that something just might go wrong. 3D Platformers are my favorite kinds of videogames, and I want to see them all succeed. Every game has potential, and it's a truly sad thing to see that potential be lost. Heavy Iron Studios had their good games, and they had their bad games, and they definitely had their amazing games. I still have faith in them despite their few hiccups. I'm 99.9% certain that Activision will release a new SpongeBob game for the 2019 movie, and who knows, maybe they might even release a game before that. Even though SpongeBob games tend to work best when they are 3D platformers, historically speaking, I think it would be really interesting for a SpongeBob game to try a different approach, gameplay wise. Plankton's Robotic Revenge was the first shooter game in the series. While that game is a far cry from what I would consider good, I can't deny that it does sound cool to play a Call of Duty style SpongeBob game, or at least to me. Another thing I'd really like to see is a Kart Racer. Boating Bash was the first main series SpongeBob game to focus on vehicles, but that game centered it on vehicular destruction. A full - blown racing game like Mario Kart or Crash Team Racing would be amazing. Maybe a fighting game in the style of Super Smash Bros., or maybe even an action RPG like Kingdom Hearts.
