Location

The Wreck of the Mauna Loa amusement park ride was a theme park attraction that was modelled after the real shipwreck known as the Mauna Loa. It appears in the episode "The Wreck of the Mauna Loa."

About[]

Early history[]

It was built as an amusement park ride based on the real Mauna Loa shipwreck. The ride later fell into disrepair and it was stored away in an underground cavern.

Role in episode[]

After SpongeBob and Patrick come across the abandoned ride by chance, they decide to make it their secret hideout. Mr. Krabs soon finds out about this and thinks that it is the real thing, so he follows the two back in hopes of finding the legendary treasure inside.

Mr. Krabs tries to locate the treasure, but finds nothing. After he finds some tokens, a ticket booth, a height restriction chart and a plastic skeleton, he eventually pieces together that the ship is actually an abandoned amusement park ride. He is initially disappointed, but soon realizes he could make lots of money by restoring the ship and using it as a tourist attraction.

Pretty soon, the ride is back in operation, but Mr. Krabs doesn't have it restored or even install any safety harnesses, which causes pieces to fall off and the riders to get tossed around and even thrown off at times. One of the ride's pieces lands on the controls and inadvertently set it to "beyond comprehension," and it starts going so fast that one of the posts break, causing the ship to plummet into the air and crash to the ground.

The people are furious with Mr. Krabs for endangering their lives, and he is subsequently arrested for operating a danger to public safety. The police close down the ride and force everyone to leave. Shortly after the ride is closed, SpongeBob and Patrick discover the real Mauna Loa in another cave nearby.
