The Ultimate SpongeBob SpongeBash was an event that celebrated the 10th anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants and consisted of 12 brand-new episodes. The event began on Friday, July 17, 2009, exactly 10 years after the official premiere of SpongeBob in 1999, with the premiere of the new episode, "To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants."[1] "Chum Caverns" aired before the top ten fan episodes.[3] "I ♥ Dancing" was shown as an advance screening before the celebrity favorites. The remaining new episodes aired on Sunday, July 19, 2009, marking the end of the marathon.[2]
Patchy the Pirate hosted the SpongeBash, and they had nonstop SpongeBob episodes for nearly two days straight, including during the normal Nick at Nite hours.[2][3]

Trivia[]
- "Le Big Switch" showed again nearly two years after its premiere.[3]
- The event has similarities to the year-long campaign Think Happy - The Year of the Sponge and other projects in 2009:
- In "Sponge," there's a square with SpongeBob, instead of an "o." That was also used for the logo of the mentioned outside-US campaign.
- London-based company Thinkmake commissioned idents for MTV, directed by Buenos Aires-based company Peppermelon, which were also used to promote this event.
- In the tease trailer for the event, some of the footage is taken from a trailer for summer airings of SpongeBob on Nickelodeon UK, made by Blue Zoo.
- Prior the event, the former MTV Store in Times Square would sell SpongeBob skateboards made by Bravo Sports Corp, in honor of his 10th anniversary. The skateboards were signed by Ashton Kutcher, Ben Affleck, Paris Hilton, and Eliza Dushku among others at a celebrity party during Sundance Film Festival.[9]
- This marathon was responsible for bringing back the 2006 Nickelodeon split screen credit logo, as it has not been used since early 2008, when it was replaced by the CGI Lightbulb logo. The 2006 logo would remain until the September 28, 2009 rebrand.
- This marathon began on David Hasselhoff's 57th birthday.
- This is the first marathon to occur in 2009.
- This marathon officially ended season five and began season seven.
- This is the first non-premiere week event in 2009.
- "Goo Goo Gas" is the only season 5 episode to premiere in this marathon.
- The first season 7 episode to premiere on American television, "I ♥ Dancing," premiered right before the last season 5 episode premiered.
- For nearly 10 years, this was the longest SpongeBob marathon, only to be beaten by Every SpongeBob Ever in July 2019.
- The first six episodes of season 7 premiered during the marathon.
- Although 12 new episodes ran during the event, promos only spoke of 10 unaired segments. (most likely referring to the Sunday night premieres)
