The Tidal Zone (alternatively SpongeBob SquarePants Presents: The Tidal Zone[1][2]) is an event that premiered new episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants, The Patrick Star Show, and Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years. The event occurred on January 13, 2023, which happened to fall on Friday the 13th.
The event was originally announced on July 22, 2022 during the Nickelodeon panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. It was set to premiere on November 25, 2022 but was later moved to January 13, 2023.
Synopsis[]
While the new episodes featured in the event are mostly stand-alone, they are connected to one another through a sub-plot, in which GrandPat gets lost in time and travels through alternate dimensions and timelines while trying to find his way back home.[1]

- This is the first event to occur in 2023.
The 2D illustrated version of Karen shown in promos.
- A 2D illustrated version of Karen's Kamp Koral design appeared in promotions for the event, but she only appears in the regular 3D/CGI animation in the actual episode content.
- The Tidal Zone logo was first used in the episode "No Pictures Please."
- The trailers for this event state that SpongeBob SquarePants, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years, and The Patrick Star Show take place in separate universes and timelines.
- The promo for this event is custom made. The Realistic Fish Head is announcing the event.
- This event was announced on July 22, 2022 during the Nickelodeon panel at the San Diego Comic-Con.[11]
- This is marketed as the first official SpongeBob SquarePants crossover event, being a crossover between SpongeBob SquarePants, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years, and The Patrick Star Show.
- This is the third event to premiere new episodes from all three shows, following The SpongeBob Mega Event and SpongeBob Universe.
- This event was originally scheduled to premiere on Friday, November 25, 2022 in the United States at 7:00pm,[2][12][13][14] but it instead got replaced with the premiere of the 2021 Nickelodeon film The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.[15][16]
- Current showrunner Vincent Waller stated that the event was postponed to later air with another event, although he has not disclosed what that event was then.[17]
- As announced on December 13, 2022, the event was moved to January 13, 2023.
- The trailer advertised the event as a three-night special, although January 14 and 15 were encore re-airings.[18]
- This event served as a lead-in to the Nickelodeon premiere of the Big Nate episode, "Wilderness Warriors."
- Interestingly, both series originate from a type of comic (SpongeBob with "The Intertidal Zone," and Big Nate with the daily strip of the same name.)
- This event was released standalone on Paramount+ on May 31, 2023.
- Nickelodeon initially planned to air each episode out of their (as Vincent Waller calls it according to a tweet) "chronological order." This order was:
- 7:00pm: "Welcome to Binary Bottom"
- 7:15pm: "You're Going to Pay... Phone"
- 7:22pm: "A Skin Wrinkle in Time"
- 7:30pm: "Shrinking Stars"
- 7:45pm: "The Switch Glitch"
- "Switch Glitch" and "Shrinking Stars" would later switch spots sometime during early January 2023.
- The promotional description features references to the episodes that aired in the event.
- "Mind may switch" is a reference to "The Switch Glitch" as it features Patrick and Karen switching bodies.
- "Bodies may shrink" is a reference to "Shrinking Stars" as it focuses on the Star family shrinking.
- "Robots may rise" is a reference to "Welcome to Binary Bottom" as it features an alternate Bikini Bottom taken over by robots.
