Synopsis[]
The episode opens with Patrick CaveStar introducing his family and show, in a remake of "The Patrick Star Show Theme Song." Afterwards, some cave fish approach a giant block in the foreground. They knock it down, and it reveals Cave Patrick's volcano house. Cave Slappy throws a bone at a sleeping Cave Patrick, who wakes up and realizes it is time to start his show.
Cave Patrick asks Cave Squidina what their show will be about, so Cave Squidina flips a giant cube with symbols on it, and comes up with fire. Cave Patrick runs a talk show with fire as his guest host. He accidentally lights himself on fire. and in a manner similar to a smoke alarm, two prehistoric animals spray water to put him out. Cave Patrick then watches "cavetoons" featuring Sir Urchin and Snail Fail. When his parents call him in for breakfast, they take turns eating bugs off each other's back. Cave Squidina's back is clean, leaving Patrick hungry. He goes around the kitchen, but does not find anything to eat.
Cave Patrick unsuccessfully searches through the cave for food. Suddenly, he sees a prehistoric Goofy Goober waiter selling ice cream. He ambushes him, wielding a giant spoon, but the waiter and his cart are swallowed by a Bubblebassasaurus. Cave Patrick beats up the dinosaur as revenge. Suddenly, he smells something coming from his house. It turns out to be from GrandPat's room, where he is doing his laundry. GrandPat brags that back in his day, everything was food. A flashback shows him as a single-celled organism, swallowing various cells. When one evolves and threatens him, GrandPat eats strange cells and evolves into a fish-like creature. He goes on land, only to be eaten by a dinosaur.
Suddenly, the volcano house erupts, sending Cave Patrick flying through the air. He lands in Cave Granny Tentacles' backyard barbecue grill. To cool himself off, he gets in her pool. He calls his family over, and they all jump in. However, the pool turns out to be a tar pit, trapping the CaveStars. The Bubblebassasaurus returns and eats Cave Granny Tentacles.
Years into the future, the tar pool turns into concrete and is picked up by construction workers. The tarred-in CaveStar family are moved to the museum, where the present day family are visiting. GrandPat comes out of the tar and tells the family that at least they are not as stupid as their ancestors, making them laugh. As they are walking away, they get stuck in chewing gum. The two families laugh that sometimes things never truly change. Just then, the Bubblebassasaurus' skeleton eats the family and blows a bubble with the gum, ending the episode.

Trivia[]
General[]
- Patrick CaveStar is currently the third character to be a prehistoric version of Patrick Star after Patar and Primitive Patrick.
- This is the second episode of the franchise to focus on the main characters in a prehistoric era, the first being the SpongeBob SquarePants season 3 special "Ugh."
- This episode was initially called "The Pre-Historic Patrick Star Show," with a hyphen between "pre" and "historic."[9][10][11][7]
- Unlike the CaveStars, GrandPat still speaks normally when in the prehistoric era, though that is likely because prehistoric and modern GrandPat are the same character.
- The cell that forms and chases after GrandPat heavily resembles the Dirty Bubble.
- This episode plays out as somewhat of a pre-historic version of "Late for Breakfast," as both episode focus on Patrick trying to obtain food and getting into all sorts of antics after missing breakfast.
- Gabe Del Valle previous helped write and storyboard another pre-historic themed episode on Looney Tunes Cartoons, entitled "Cro-Mag Numbskulls." Not only are both shows storyboard-driven, but both segments focus on the main characters attempting to get food.
- This was the highest-rated episode of The Patrick Star Show to premiere during the AfterToons event, as it received 292,000 viewers during the original American airing.[12]
Cultural references[]
- The scene where the GrandPat cell is eating all of the other cells in a maze is a parody of the Pac-Man video game franchise.
- One of the promotional art pieces for this episode is a parody of the Jurassic Park logo.
Errors[]
- When Patrick CaveStar introduces his show at the end of the theme song, part of his outfit changes and gains an extra spot.
- When Patrick CaveStar finds a prehistoric version of Walter the Waiter selling dinosaur milk ice cream, Patrick CaveStar's brown beard is missing.
