"The Other Patty" is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season 8. In this episode, Mr. Krabs and Plankton unite in their dislike of a new eatery called the Flabby Patty.

Characters[]

Synopsis[]

The episode begins at the Krusty Krab, where SpongeBob is taking out the trash. Then, Plankton is seen trying to, once again, steal the formula. This time, Mr. Krabs lets him have it, then the patty explodes as part of new Krusty Krab security measures that can backfire on customers when a Krabby Patty goes beyond 10 feet of the Krusty Krab. SpongeBob is upset that Mr. Krabs and Plankton cannot cooperate with each other, and Mr. Krabs claims they are like enemies. The episode plot comes to a jumping-off point when a new eatery called the Flabby Patty Shack is established.

Things take an unexpected turn for them when it turns out the Flabby Patty is better than the Krabby Patty. Mr. Krabs and Plankton compete to see who can get the secret recipe, but SpongeBob explains it is best if they cooperate. However, neither of them agree to work together, but after several failed attempts on their own, they begrudgingly agree to SpongeBob's idea. They disguise themselves as an employee applying for a job. The employer hires them and their first assignment is to memorize the secret recipe.

They are excited until the recipe is revealed to be about friendship. SpongeBob is revealed to be the employer and says he created the restaurant to teach them about cooperation. This angers Mr. Krabs and Plankton, who remember everything they went through the whole day and how it was all SpongeBob's fault. The episode ends when they chase a scared SpongeBob to brutally repay him with their newly formed "cooperation."

Release[]

Reception[]

  • "The Other Patty" was ranked #95 during the SpongeBob's Top 100 event in the UK and Ireland from June 4-8, 2012.

Trivia[]

General[]

  • The title card for this episode resembles that of "The Original Fry Cook."
    • Coincidentally, both episode titles start with "The O" and are the second episode segment of their respective seasons.
  • All Steel Licks used in this episode are low pitched.
  • This is the second episode where SpongeBob makes a different version of a Krabby Patty by himself. The first was "Patty Hype," where in that episode, he makes Pretty Patties.
  • This is the second episode where Plankton and Mr. Krabs team up together due to a new restaurant having a large amount of customers. The first was "Best Frenemies."
  • This is the fourth episode where Mr. Krabs tries to steal another formula. The first was "Best Frenemies," the second was "Spy Buddies," and the third was "Plankton's Regular."
  • SpongeBob yelling "The fish hooks are coming!" could be a reference to the episode "Hooky."
  • Both this and its sister episode use the same opening credits, but with different third writer.
    • However in the French dub, the credits for this episode is the same as its sister, which is the second time this happens. The first was "Sleepy Time"/"Suds". But that was an error, which could not count.
    • In its sister, it was Dani Michaeli, while in this episode, it was Doug Lawrence.
  • This episode is also known as "Patty Panic" (not to be confused with the online game of the same name).
  • Foreshadowing: The Flabby Patty restaurant first appears right after the scene where SpongeBob wonders how to get Mr. Krabs and Plankton back together, foreshadowing he was the one who started it.
  • This episode reveals that SpongeBob has the capabilities to make his own successful restaurant with his own secret ingredient but chooses not to leave the Krusty Krab, proving his loyalty to Mr. Krabs and his restaurant.
  • When Plankton tastes a Flabby Patty, his eye displays "3, 2, 1" then launches like a rocket, similar to "Goo Goo Gas" when SpongeBob blasts Plankton back to the Chum Bucket.
  • This episode was paired with "Sentimental Sponge" in its original airing.
  • Although this episode was copyrighted in 2011, it was completed in 2010.[2]
  • This is the second episode in which Plankton tries to lift Mr. Krabs. The first was "New Leaf."

Episode references[]

  • This episode is similar to "Best Frenemies," as both episodes involve Mr. Krabs and Plankton competing against a restaurant.
  • SpongeBob references "Friend or Foe" when he says that Mr. Krabs and Plankton were once best "palsie-walsies."

Cultural references[]

  • SpongeBob yelling "The fish hooks are coming!" is a reference to Paul Revere saying "The British are coming!"

Errors[]

SpongeBob's eyelashes mistake in The Other Patty

SpongeBob's visible eyelashes mistake.

The Other Patty mouth error

Plankton's duplicated mouth.

  • Plot hole: SpongeBob is revealed to be the cook at the Flabby Patty shack at the end, but when he is not there, the shack is already open, and the fish are getting patties.
  • When Plankton says, "Interesting!", his mouth duplicates.
  • When Mr. Krabs and Plankton are in the disguise and SpongeBob tells them about cooperation, SpongeBob blinks his eyes, but his eyelashes are still seen.
  • In a failed Danish translation dub, this episode is called "The Other Patrick," even though Patrick is neither seen nor heard in this episode.
  • In the French opening credits, Dani Michaeli is credited as a writer instead of Doug Lawrence.
