"The Krusty Bucket" is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season 12. In this episode, Plankton creates a hybrid clone of himself and Mr. Krabs, but neither restaurant is safe from the newcomer.

Plankton gets a hair sample from Mr. Krabs while he is showering. After Mr. Krabs uses Plankton while showering, he comes back to the Chum Bucket to combine one of the hairs with one of his antennae to create PlanKrab.

PlanKrab has already created a plan to steal the formula and ends up gaining control of the entire restaurant due to his hearty handshake. He uses this handshake on Plankton to trick him and kick him out of the restaurant.

The Krusty Bucket.

After Mr. Krabs and Plankton see that the Chum Bucket and the Krusty Krab have been combined to become the Krusty Bucket, the two eavesdrop on the restaurant. They get sad after seeing how PlanKrab runs his restaurant, and the two decide to team up to get their restaurants back.

They try several attempts to defeat PlanKrab, but they fail. Eventually, they go to the restaurant to apply for manager. However, PlanKrab makes the two managers of the restrooms.

Plankton and Mr. Krabs get into a brawl in the bathrooms, causing PlanKrab to intervene and get so angry that he splits into two. The split PlanKrabs get into a fight, but Mr. Krabs stops them and tells them to have a clean fight. Before that, he makes the two handshake, causing the two PlanKrabs to melt due to how good their handshakes are.

Running gags

  • PlanKrab giving people his soothing handshake.
  • Plankton coughing up hair, frequently followed up by him saying "Hair."

The episode was confirmed by Vincent Waller on March 23, 2019.[1]

  • This episode might have been inspired by a promo from Nick Extra.[2]
  • This episode marks the first usage of "Happy Sponge Chase Vibes" and "Horror House of Wax Retro 2" since "Back to the Past."
  • PlanKrab's Krabby Patty features a pinch of chum, something the original Krabby Patty formula had as stated in "Friend or Foe."
  • Promotions for this episode have alternatively titled it "SpongeBob Meets PlanKrab."
  • This episode was paired up with "Karen's Baby" during the original American airing, but has since been re-airing with "Squid's on a Bus."
  • Colonel Carper from "Hello Bikini Bottom!" has a cameo appearance in this episode, as he steps on Plankton while the latter was waiting for PlanKrab to deliver the secret formula.
  • This episode premiered on the same day as the 2019 Kids' Choice Sports.
  • The scene where Plankton tries to flush Mr. Krabs down a toilet while they are fighting in the restroom is cut in the UK because kids might try to imitate it.[3] Despite this, both Plankton and Mr. Krabs have been shown trying to flush each other down toilets in "Plankton's Army," and that scene did not get censored in the UK.
  • In Australia and New Zealand, this episode was originally going to air on August 8, 2019, for an event called Animated August, but was replaced by "Sandy's Nutty Nieces," and pushed it to April 23, 2020.
  • This is the third time where Mr. Krabs and Plankton team up against a foe. The first was in "Best Frenemies," and the second was in "The Other Patty."
  • A clip from "Plankton's Old Chum" was used in a promo for this episode.

Cultural references

  • Plankton hides inside a tube of Krust toothpaste, which is an allusion to the real-life toothpaste brand Crest.
  • Mr. Krabs' line "Well, here's another fine mess you've gotten us into!," references the Laurel and Hardy shorts, wherein Oliver Hardy would say the same phrase to Stan Laurel.

  • After Red PlanKrab and Green PlanKrab melted from doing the soothing handshake, both hands switches places in the next scene.
    • When PlanKrab is splitting up, both Red and Green PlanKrab have red hands. After successfully splitting, Red Plankrab has green hands.
  • In the French dub, the opening credits are taken from its sister episode "Squid's on a Bus."[4]
  • When Administrator Flotsam says, "Hey, I'm trying to read!," his lip-syncing does not match his dialogue.
