The Flying Dutchman's Treasure Hunt is a board game that is based on a real treasure map. It appears in the episodes "Arrgh!" and "Plankton Gets the Boot."
Description[]
The game board.
The box of the game is light blue and the design of it shows the Flying Dutchman with some treasure and the name of the game in black text with the outline of the letters in green.
Rules[]
On a player's turn, the player must roll the dice and move that many spaces around the board. Then the player picks up a card that gives an action to be done. Cards include a variety of actions including changing turn rotation, making others lose turns, collecting doubloons, or simply winning.
The objective is to travel completely around the board and to the center, where the treasure is, similar to Parcheesi. There is also a form of currency or bonus points for earning doubloons.
Cards[]
It appears that there are many cards in the game, but only three cards are seen. The game cards of this game board are a spoof of the Monopoly game cards.
- One of your shipmates has been a bad pirate! Send him to the brig! (green card; picture of the Flying Dutchman in a jail cell)
- You are a real pirate. Go straight to the X which marks the spot. (orange card)
- Look for the Deacon's Goose thru the fork in the old tree and head that way. (orange card; picture of the Deacon's Goose is seen through the fork in the old tree, pointing right)
Pieces[]
The board is three-dimensional, and has pieces that attach to it.
- The Old Tree-A green tree with a fork in it. It has only one known use, and that is in cooperation with the Deacon's Goose to determine the direction of player movement.
- The Deacon's Goose-An orange goose used with the Old Tree to determine the direction of player movement.
- Start Piece-Like in Monopoly, the starting place for the players, and passing it results in the earning of eight gold doubloons.
- Shark-A gray shark fin. Use is unknown, though probably a hazard.
- Finish-A mound of sand labeled "X." A plastic treasure chest is underneath. It is the finish line for all players.
Role in series[]
"Arrgh!"[]
Mr. Krabs plays it too much and soon goes on a real treasure hunt with SpongeBob and Patrick, and SpongeBob and Patrick find out the map was literally their game board taped to a piece of paper.
"Toy Store of Doom"[]
SpongeBob takes a similar looking board game out of a chest and asks Patrick, only for him to decline it like everything else he suggests.
"Plankton Gets the Boot"[]
It can be seen leaning against a stack of other board games in SpongeBob's house when SpongeBob and Plankton are watching a movie.
