Team Animazing was an animation-themed block that aired on ABS-CBN in the Philippines from 2009 to 2016, airing during the mornings. While the block was mainly known for airing various animes and action cartoons, SpongeBob SquarePants aired on the block throughout the early to mid-2010s.
History[]
ABS-CBN had previously aired animated shows during the network's morning hours, usually starting at sometime between 8:00am to 8:30am.[13] It would eventually begin a block dedicated to these programs known as Team Animazing, on September 26, 2009 at 8:30am, airing shows such as Naruto, Wolverine and the X-Men, and Totally Spies![1] On July 12, 2010, it would be announced that Nickelodeon had sold the syndication rights of SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer, and various other series from Nick to ABS-CBN. Nickelodeon's selection of programming would air in a spin-off block prior to the regular Team Animazing line-up, known as Team Animazing presents Nickelodeon Time, which would begin on July 26, 2010 at 8:30am.[14] SpongeBob would air on the block daily from Monday to Saturday.
The block would continue well into 2011; However, on June 27, 2011, Dora was removed from the weekday line-up, replaced by Mr. Bean: The Animated Series. This left SpongeBob to merge in with the rest of the Animazing block, where it would serve as its lead-in every weekday at 8:15am.[3] SpongeBob would air on the block daily until September 16, 2011.[4] After temporarily airing as a part of ABS-CBN's new morning block Kapamilya Weekday Cartoons,[15] exclusively with Eyeshield 21 and The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the show would return to Team Animazing on November 14, 2011, with Inuzama Eleven and Wolverine and the X-Men.[5][16] The series would air there until January 20, 2012, as on the following week, it would be replaced by Sailor Moon,[17] and the show would vanish from ABS-CBN.
SpongeBob would eventually return to ABS-CBN's schedules on December 1, 2012 as a part of the block Team Nickelodeon, but it would only air on Saturday mornings.[18] The show would eventually return to Team Animazing for weekday broadcast starting on July 7, 2014, headlining the block once more at 9:00am.[6] This was the first time the show would air under the block's rebrand, which would occur in March 2012, not long after the show originally left the block.[19] Beginning on July 8, 2014, the official ABS-CBN would begin to post teasers on their YouTube and Dailymotion channels, in order for viewers to see what episode would air on the block the following day online, similar to how they had done for the show while it simultaneously aired on Team Nick.[20][21]

Team Animazing airings of the show were said to have been heavily edited.[22][23] This can be seen in a 2014 airing of the episode "Something Smells." In the original print, after SpongeBob's bad breath knots Gary's eyestalks, he looks between his two paper schedules before going to the outskirts of Bikini Bottom and greeting everyone. That entire scene was removed when it aired on ABS-CBN, immediately transitioning to SpongeBob's greeting. In the ABS-CBN airing, the scene where SpongeBob's bad breath terrorizes his fellow theater attendees is cut, instead immediately bubble wiping to SpongeBob and Patrick at the empty cinema snack bar. While the original version of the episode is 11 minutes and 37 seconds, the ABS-CBN cut is about 7 minutes and 27 seconds long, 4 minutes being removed from the episode.
ABS-CBN's promotional teasers for upcoming episodes also proved to be questionable and unreliable, with episodes being said to air repeatedly and often not corresponding with the episode that ran on television. For example, the episode "Squidward's School for Grown-Ups" was oddly advertised as airing from August 25 - August 27, 2014.[24][25][26] Despite this, the episode "Restraining SpongeBob" actually aired on August 25.[27]
SpongeBob would air on the block until April 10, 2015,[7] replaced by the seventh season of Naruto: Shippuden.[28] It seemed as if the show was scheduled to continue on the block for a bit longer at one point, as a promo for the show airing on April 13 exists.[29] The block would later end on June 16, 2016, having been reduced to solely airing Naruto: Shippuden at 9:00am, which was SpongeBob's original time slot.[2]
