Synopsis[]

Krusty Towers 026

The Krusty Towers

The episode begins with Squidward and SpongeBob walking to work, where SpongeBob tells a false story about overcooking the fries as usual, much to Squidward's annoyance. However, when they reach their workplace, SpongeBob and Squidward are both shocked to see that the Krusty Krab has dramatically changed. Mr. Krabs comes out and reveals that he has turned the restaurant into a hotel and renamed it the Krusty Towers, with the original building now on top of a large tower. When SpongeBob asks Mr. Krabs why he's built the hotel, he explains that while he was on vacation, he had fun, but was shocked by his outrageously high hotel bills, tallying up to $345.00, and realized how much money hotels can make off of anything, including food. He also says that the employees at his hotel lived by a code: "We shall never deny a guest even the most ridiculous request," which was on a gold plaque above a fireplace in the hotel he stayed at. He puts that code in for the Krusty Towers as well. Mr. Krabs then brings SpongeBob and Squidward into the hotel and quickly makes them his new hotel employees.

A customer enters and orders a Double Krabby Patty with no onions and extra pickles, but then leaves when Mr. Krabs tells him that he must book a hotel room and order room service to eat their food because the customer only has an hour for lunch. Patrick soon arrives and becomes the hotel's first actual guest, which Squidward can't help but question. Patrick tells Squidward that he sometimes just needs to "get away from it all". After Patrick signs the register, which he initially believed was a test he'd failed to study for, Squidward carries Patrick's bags up to his room. He tries to take the guest elevator, but Mr. Krabs stops him and explains that he must take the "employee elevator," which is actually in fact, a staircase. Patrick then requests Squidward to come several more times for ridiculous reasons. Whenever Squidward gets to the bottom of the hotel, Mr. Krabs tells him to go back up to do something that Patrick wants, which annoys Squidward more and more. Squidward complains to Mr. Krabs about his unreasonable behavior, but Mr. Krabs refuses to do anything about it, citing the plaque. After being ordered to give Patrick a "bubble bath," Squidward refuses, states that he has had enough, and rides the guest elevator down to the lobby where he stubbornly quits his job despite Mr. Krabs' protests.

He walks out the door and immediately comes back to the hotel as a guest instead of an employee. He decides to punish Mr. Krabs by taking advantage of his code. Squidward demands a room on the top floor and that Mr. Krabs carry him to get there, which he gets both by paying him and using the plaque. He orders a Krabby Patty with cheese, nose hair, and toenail clippings, and forces Mr. Krabs to eat it for his own humor. Also, Patrick has the cheese all over his room, which is supposed to be on that Krabby Patty, because he said earlier, he wanted the room with cheese. Squidward then wants his cookies like the ones his mother makes, which Mr. Krabs resentfully has to get from Mrs. Tentacles. SpongeBob comes with him to have Squidward's mother help him make the cookies. Then after the cookies are completed to Squidward's satisfaction, he asks Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob to repaint his room and change his furniture, only to get it back to its original state after they go through several different design ideas. Squidward then asks for the pool, which Mr. Krabs tells him is out in the back of the building, to be brought inside and made into an indoor pool. After getting the indoor pool, Patrick jumps in to join Squidward and SpongeBob, but the force causes the hotel to collapse, leaving only the original Krusty Krab standing.

Patrick, SpongeBob, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs luckily survive the destruction, but end up in the hospital with massive injuries, requiring casts and bandages to be wrapped around them. When the episode ends with Mr. Krabs outraged to see the hospital fee ($15,000), he scraps the idea of a hotel and tells Squidward, SpongeBob, and Patrick that they are going to medical school, much to Squidward's dismay and SpongeBob and Patrick's delight.

Release[]

Reception[]

  • "Krusty Towers" was ranked #4 during the Best Day Ever event from November 9–10, 2006.

Trivia[]

General[]

Spongebob-Mr-Krabs-and-Mrs-Puff-toy-figure-Krusty-Love

The toy (left).

  • In 2011, a Squinkies toy of Mr. Krabs in his Krusty Towers uniform was released. Oddly, the Squinkies website's guide paired this toy with one of Mrs. Puff, mistakenly believing his outfit was from "Krusty Love" instead.
  • One of Squidward's suitcases has what appears to be the Taiwanese flag.
    • It could also be a flag of Samoa.
  • It is revealed that Mr. Krabs keeps his laundry in his car and has a tattoo of an anchor on his chest.
Season 4 Volume 1 Disc 2

This DVD cover artwork is based on this episode.

  • Season 4 Volume 1 disc 2 has a case with a cover based on this episode.
  • This is the second episode for a few things:
    • The second episode in the series where SpongeBob's legs turn into rockets. The first was in "Jellyfish Hunter."
    • The second episode in the series where toenail clippings are put into a Krabby Patty. The first is in "Nasty Patty."
    • The second episode in which Squidward's mom is seen. The first was "Fools in April," when she appeared in his thought bubble saying, "You stink!" in a deeper, more masculine voice.
      • However, this is the first episode where she appears physically instead of appearing in a thought bubble.
      • Ironically enough, this episode premiered in the United States exactly six years after "Fools in April" did.
  • This is the first episode to premiere on Nick Germany. Past episodes in Germany premiered on Super RTL due to Nickelodeon being closed in Germany from 1998-2005.
  • This is the third episode for two things:
  • This episode has become a common source for YTPs.
  • There is an online game based on this episode called Decorating Dilemma.
  • In the Croatian dub, the episode title is "Rakov Toranj" translating to "Krab's Tower."
  • In the Russian dub, the episode title is "Красти взмывает ввысь" is translated as "Krusty soars up."
  • On the November 10, 2006 airing, this episode was paired with "Ghost Host."[4]
  • Patrick's many requests to Squidward while staying at the hotel:
    • Carrying his bags to his room
    • Peeling off the crust of the Krabby Patties
    • Eating Krabby Patties together; SpongeBob did it instead
    • Unclogging the toilet
    • Giving him a bubble bath

Cultural references[]

  • The title is a parody of a UK series titled Fawlty Towers, which was also about a hotel and its owners.
  • Patrick's drawing is a reference to monster movies such as King Kong and Godzilla.
  • The order of a hotel room with cheese is a reference to a hotel room covered with melted cheese which was made at Washington Jefferson Hotel in 1999.

Errors[]

  • Despite the episode and the building being named "The Krusty Towers," there is only one building.
FloorError

12 instead of 17.

  • The Krusty Towers has 17 floors, but every time it is shown outside, there are 12.
    • In addition to this, in the DVD cover based on this episode, the Krusty Towers is drawn as having 6 floors instead of 17.
  • When Mr. Krabs says "And thus, the Krusty Towers was born," the fonting on both the sign and grand opening banner are mirrored.
  • At the front desk on the first floor, there are 16 room keys displayed, but counting all the rooms from the outside of the building, there are 36 rooms (18 seen in the front, and 18 unseen behind), at least 20 keys short.
  • Despite Squidward and Patrick both gaining a room key from Mr. Krabs, the number of keys displayed on the

    bulletin board is the same.

SpongeBob's eyelashes are gone.

  • When SpongeBob says, "How may I serve you, sir?" he has no eyelashes, until after he salutes, then they appear in the rest.
  • In the first clip showing Mr. Krabs saying, "That hotel was a bad idea," it shows bandages on his feet, but when he says "Forget hotels," they are gone, then when he says "Pack your bags, boys," they are shown again.
  • When Mr. Krabs first serves Squidward and takes him upstairs, he is wearing the blue employee uniform. When he goes back to the reception desk, the former is wearing a black suit. When he once again goes upstairs to assist Squidward, he was in the uniform.
    • He could have changed out of each outfit in between locations.
  • Squidward's room number changes: at first, it is 1721, and in another scene, it is 1722.
  • The Krusty Towers is on the wrong side of Conch Street. It is usually on Patrick Star's house side.
Krusty Towers 096

SpongeBob's miscolored lip.

  • When Squidward pulls SpongeBob out of the toilet, his bottom lip is miscolored black instead of red.
  • When Mr. Krabs responds to Squidward's demand to carry him to his room, the end appears to be cut, causing Mr. Krabs' arm to return to his side without animation.
  • Whenever the outside of Krusty Towers was shown, the crossroad connecting to the Chum Bucket is missing.
  • Even though Patrick said that he didn't like crusts on his sandwich, he had no problem eating the fifty Krabby Patties that he ordered with SpongeBob, which had the crusts on them. He also doesn't have any problem with the crusts in any of the other episodes.
    • It is possible that he was just looking for an excuse to make Squidward's job more difficult.
  • When Patrick wanted his patties without crust, Squidward only peeled the top bun of Patrick's Krabby Patty, and the following close-up shows both the top and bottom buns peeled.
    • It’s possible that he peeled the bottom bun offscreen.
      BottomErrorKrustyTowers

      Who peeled the other bun?

  • When everyone was seen in the hospital at the end, SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward are shown in bandages and casts, despite that sea sponges, starfish, and octopi are invertebrates.
