This is the only SpongeBob SquarePants DVD to have the Nickelodeon fish logo after the warning (anti-piracy) screen, where normally, it would be the other way around (first it would be the Nickelodeon fish logo (with or without a black screen for a few seconds before the logo starts), and then the anti-piracy screen). But for unknown reasons, the order was swapped.
Although this practice remained in Europe until the Tide and Seek DVD.
This is the first SpongeBob SquarePants DVD for seven things:
The first SpongeBob DVD to contain previews, which can only be accessed through the main menu. These previews include a promo for other Nickelodeon DVDs and VHS tapes and Tak and the Power of Juju video game trailer.
The first SpongeBob DVD to contain episode from just 2 seasons instead of 3.
The first SpongeBob DVD to include episode storyboards.
The first SpongeBob DVD with a cover that's based on a special/double-length episode.
The first SpongeBob DVD to feature Patrick on the front cover.
The first SpongeBob DVD to not include any episodes from season 2.
SpongeBob's line "Seriously?" is removed from the episode "Party Pooper Pants" on this DVD because there are no commercials on the DVD. However, the "seriously" line remains intact on the storyboard version featured on this DVD.
On the opening credits of "Tea at the Treedome" on this DVD[2] and the Deep Sea Sillies VHS tape, Edgar Larrazábal is incorrectly credited as the animation director instead of Tom Yasumi. This also happens in early American reruns of "Tea at the Treedome,"[3][4] so it seems that these home media releases and early reruns are sourced from the same master copy. On The Complete 1st Season,[5]10 Happiest Moments,[6] and The First 100 Episodes[7] DVD releases of "Tea at the Treedome," Tom Yasumi is credited correctly as the animation director instead of Edgar Larrazábal.
"Born Again Krabs" and "I Had an Accident" were released on this DVD nine months before premiering on American television, but those episodes are in reverse order on this DVD.
All of the episodes on this DVD had clips during the "Underwater Sun" song music video on the special features, except for "I Had An Accident" and "Born Again Krabs."
The "Drawing the Goo Lagoon" special can also be found on disc 3 of The Complete 1st Season DVD as a special feature.
In different countries, this DVD and many other DVDs were bundle in different various boxsets.
In some stores in the United States, this DVD is plastic wrapped with Lost at Sea as a bundle.[8]
In most copies of the Dutch DVD, there's a sticker that says, "Nederland GESPROKEN, 2 Uur Kijkplezier" which is placed right next to Patrick on the cover. This also happens on the Tide and Seek Dutch DVD re-release and on sealed copies of the Go, Diego, Go!: The Great Dinosaur Rescue Dutch DVD where the circle is a leaf that says, "3 Afleveringen Nederlands Gesproken." Opened and unsealed copies don't have that leaf.
In the closed-captioning version of "Party Pooper Pants," any lines referring to "Potty" are misspelled as "Polly."
