Super Bowl LVIII: Live from Bikini Bottom is a live simulation of Super Bowl LVIII from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. In partnership with CBS Sports, Nickelodeon aired a kid-oriented, network-based version of the rematch Kansas City Chiefs vs. the San Francisco 49ers main event after 4 years ago from the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic in the Hard Rock Stadium of Miami Gardens, Florida.
Background[]
On August 1, 2023, CBS Sports announced that it would carry a live simulation of Super Bowl LVIII on Nickelodeon on February 11, 2024.[3] Billed as Super Bowl LVIII: Live from Bikini Bottom, the broadcast featured new augmented reality effects with a SpongeBob theme.[4]
Opening[]
The event began with SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, and Larry the Lobster watching the Super Bowl LVIII event from their television, when Sandy Cheeks brought her new invention: the Big-ifier 3000. However, a shenanigan from SpongeBob and Patrick instead brought the Allegiant Stadium to Bikini Bottom, with Sandy declaring Bikini Bottom as the host of Super Bowl LVIII. "Sweet Victory" was also featured in a CGI animation before the game started,[5] which was storyboarded by Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years supervising director Brandon Warren.
Broadcast[]
SpongeBob and Patrick were joined by CBS Sports analyst Nate Burleson and play-by-play announcer Noah Eagle live in the booth to call the game. Sandy Cheeks served as the sideline reporter, while Larry the Lobster provided the live commentary. NFL Slimetime's hosts Young Dylan and Dylan Schefter also reported live from the Raiders' home arena, the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The broadcast also featured Plankton with his giant robot on the field, DoodleBob of writing notes and drawings on the screen and cameo appearances from the new generation designs of the new series "Dora" with Dora the Explorer and her best friend monkey sidekick, Boots as rules analyst and penalty explanations.
During the game, the camera pans over to the audience point-of-view on occasion, featuring the title characters of Rock Paper Scissors, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles from Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise, the live-action Louds from The Really Loud House, and characters from IF, either sharing food or admiring the show.
To keep the audience entertained, every time the Chiefs or 49ers score, an effect would drop on the goal.
