The SquarePants family is a family a sponges who descend from the primitive spong,e as well as SpongeGar, who discovered fire along with Patar and Squog. The primitive sponges lived in what was most likely Bikini Bottom. The history of the SquarePants family is unknown until the eighteenth century, when SpongeBuck SquarePants settled in Bikini Gulch. His descendants still live in Bikini Bottom, the most notable being SpongeBob SquarePants.
Grandpa Squarepants is the father of Harold, Sherm, Alan, Donald, Bryan and Blue Squarepants, and up to He is also the grandfather of Spongebob, Todd, Blackjack, Larry and Stanley. He is voiced by Tom Kenny. He was first mentioned in "Rock Bottom", and is depicted in Spongebob's mind in "The Sponge Who Could Fly". He is known for his wise sayings, which include "If we were meant to fly, we had have propellers on our heads or jet engines on our backs." ("The Sponge Who Could Fly") and "Never run for a bus, especially one that's going up at a 90 degree angle." ("Rock Bottom"). SpongeBob refers to him in the past tense and his wife, Grandma SquarePants, lives alone, implying that he is deceased. (1923-1993)
Grandma Squarepants is the mother of Harold, Sherm, Alan, Donald, Bryan and Blue Squarepants. She is also the grandmother of Spongebob, Todd, Blackjack, Larry and Stanley. She is a typical grandmother, doing activities such as baking cookies and reading stories. Her appearance is more like a natural sponge, rather then a kitchen sponge. Her deceased husband is Grandpa SquarePants.
She lives in a metal house, with a straw roof, and flowers growing outside of the windows. She debuts in Grandma's Kisses, where she is the focal point of the episode, and also in BlackJack, where Spongebob fears she has been kidnapped by Cousin BlackJack. She is voiced by Marion Ross. (1927-present)
Harold Squarepants is Spongebob's father, the son of Grandma and Grandpa Squarepants, uncle of Stanley, Blackjack, Larry and Todd Squarepants and brother of Sherm, Alan, Donald, Bryan and Blue Squarepants. Harold Squarepants has brown eyes, a mustache and wears thick glasses. He is round, wears a white shirt and brown pants pulled up to his stomach. (1955-present)
Harold debuted in "Home Sweet Pineapple", where he came to pick up Spongebob after nematodes ate his pineapple house. In this episode, when SpongeBob is in his parents' car, he says "Good-bye Bikini Bottom!", which indicates that Spongebob's parents do not live in Bikini Bottom. They later appeared in "Culture Shock" as they watched the Krusty Krab talent show, and in "No Free Rides", where Harold Squarepants kissed Mrs. Puff's hand and gave his son a boatmobile for passing his driver's test. In "Driven to Tears" they seem sad that Spongebob doesn't have his license, saying how "even Patrick has a license". His name was revealed in "BlackJack" when Mrs. SquarePants says "I told you, Harold, that was the fumigator's fault." In "New Digs," they visit Spongebob while he is living at the Krusty Krab. Harold is voiced by Tom Kenny. Unlike Spongebob, both his parents are more like natural sponges since they have round heads.
Claire Gretchen Squarepants is Spongebob's mother. Mrs. Squarepants has black hair, blue eyes and is dressed in a purple matchbox dress with matching sleeveless pantalets. She debuted in "Home Sweet Pineapple", where they came to pick up Spongebob after nematodes ruined his pineapple house. In this episode, when Spongebob is in his parents' car, he says "Good-bye Bikini Bottom!", which indicates that Spongebob's parents do not live in Bikini Bottom. They later appeared in "Culture Shock" as they watched the Krusty Krab talent show, and in "No Free Rides", where they gave their son a boatmobile for passing his driver's test. In "Driven to Tears" they seem sad that Spongebob does not have his license, saying how "even Patrick has a license." Mrs. SquarePants is voiced by Sirena Irwin. It is true that Spongebob's parents do not live in Bikini Bottom and their son does. Unlike Spongebob, both his parents are more like natural sponges since they have round heads. (1958-present)
Sherm Squarepants is Harold, Blue, Alan, Donald and Bryan's brother, Grandma and Grandpa Squarepants' son and Blackjack, Todd, Larry and Spongebob's uncle. Sherm was first mentioned in the episode "Krab Borg"; he was also mentioned in "Nicktoons: Battle for Volcano Island". In the episode "Stanley S. SquarePants", Sherm sent his son, Stanley to live with Spongebob since Sherm was fed up with his clumsiness. He is seen in a photo in "Pest of the West." He has the ability to stick a watermelon in his nose. Also, he is square-shaped like Spongebob and his son, Stanley. (1949-present)
Blue SquarePants (Uncle Captain Blue) is the son of Grandma and Grandpa Squarepants, he is the brother of Harold, Alan, Donald, Bryan and Sherm Squarepants and the uncle of Spongebob, Todd, BlackJack, Larry and Stanley Squarepants. He is round, light orange in color, wears a blue cap, has a grey beard and dark green eyes. Blue is a retired police captain, and he lives next to Blackjack. He is voiced by Garnett Sailor. In the episode, Blackjack, Spongebob told him that he needs help from him to save his parents from Blackjack, but Blue said he was retired. He enjoys drinking Clam Tomato Chowder Juice, and listening to classic music with his record player. He refers to Spongebob as "Bobby" (sometimes "Little Bobby"). (1947-present)
SpongeBob SquarePants is the title character of the series. (1986-present)
Spongebob clone #1 and #2
In the episode Overbooked, an invention of Sandy's created two clone copies of Spongebob. Spongebob is technically their genetic parent/donor since he is the person that they got their DNA from. Since they have DNA that's 100% identical to Spongebob's, they have the exact same place in the Squarepants family tree as Spongebob. They have not currently made any other appearance in an episode.
Stanley S. Squarepants
Stanley Seth SquarePants is Spongebob's cousin who appeared in the episode of the same name. He is Sherm SquarePants' son. Sherm sent him to Spongebob because Stanley couldn't keep a job, and everything he touched would break. Spongebob attempts to find Stanley's purpose in life. However, Stanley's clumsy attributes lead him to destroy things. While working at the Krusty Krab, Spongebob took the blame for Stanley's mistakes. When the truth was revealed, Mr. Krabs had an idea; which was to work for the Chum Bucket, since everything Stanley touches breaks. In the end, the Chum Bucket was destroyed as Mr. Krabs had outsmarted his rival, Plankton. (1982-present)
BlackJack SquarePants is SpongeBob's older cousin who beat up SpongeBob when they were young. Later in life, he was sent to prison for littering. He appears in the episode "BlackJack", where he is released from prison, and his family holds a party to welcome him back. (1979-present)
However, SpongeBob believes that Blackjack had kidnapped his parents until the true nature of the situation was revealed. SpongeBob's father explains to him that Blackjack has learned his lesson and renounced his criminal ways, but Spongebob is still scared and dose not believe that he changed.
While he was in prison, Blackjack invented a remote that could shrink him from average to the size of a shoe to the size of a shoe to average. He is voiced by John Di Maggio.
Todd Squarepants is Spongebob's cousin who appeared in the Story Reader book, The Never-Ending Stay. He was to stay in Spongebob's house forever but he left in the ending. (1977-present)
Larry SquarePants is SpongeBob's cousin and Bryan's father who was only mentioned in the video game, "Operation K.P.." (1977-present)
In "SB-129", Squidward accidentally travels to early prehistoric times, where he meets early ancestors of SpongeBob and Patrick. This primitive sponge has little in common with his modern counterpart, being a savage and unintelligent creature with no discernible spoken language. He and the primitive starfish are seen stinging themselves with a jellyfish, and Squidward teaches them jellyfishing to stop them from torturing themselves, inadvertently inventing the sport in the process. He then sits down to play his clarinet, but SpongeBob and Patrick's ancestors are angered by the sound, and begin viciously chasing him until he reaches the time machine.
SpongeBuck SquarePants 1864-1948
SpongeBuck SquarePants was an ancestor of the SquarePants family. He was the 5th great grandfather of Grandpa SquarePants, the 6th great-grandfather of Harold, Blue, and Sherm SquarePants, and the 7th great-grandfather of SpongeBob, BlackJack, Todd, and Stanley SquarePants. He appeared in "Pest of the West." SpongeBuck moved to Dead Eye Gulch, where he was seeking a job. He was immediately hired as the sheriff. He stood up to Dead Eye Plankton, a wealthy citizen who owned almost all the land in the town. SpongeBuck defeated him in a western-style stand-off, where he stomped on him. SpongeBuck had saved the town and in his honor, a statue was built. The statue was put in the center of the town, and, centuries later stood in downtown Bikini Bottom, where it was covered in jellyfish waste. (1866-1950)
Apparently during his life in Dead Eye Gulch, he was a major authority figure. His best friend, Pecos Patrick (referred to as This Guy by Spongebuck) died 17 years before Spongebuck in 1933.
SpongeTron is a ascendant of SpongeBob SquarePants who lives in the 41st century. He looks virtually identical to his present-day counterpart, but has various robotic abilities, such as hovering and heat vision. He has 486 clones, each representing a letter of the alphabet, which has apparently been greatly expanded in the future. (3986-present)
Donald & Megan Squarepants
Donald and Megan Squarepants are Todd Squarepants' parents. They died when Todd was 18 years old. (1944-1998)
