SpongeBob changes the channel quickly once Gary comes into the living room of SpongeBob's house. When SpongeBob changes the channel to the sports channel, American football is shown on the screen.

When Patchy rewinds the video cassette, he finds the sports channel. Patchy is looking for a button to rewind the cassette, and accidentally presses the wrong button, causing the channel to switch. When Patchy is switching through channels, the sports channel can be seen through the numerous channels being switched through.

- The game shown on the sports channel in "Your Shoe's Untied" is a game between the Tampa Bay Bandits and the Houston Gamblers of the now-defunct professional football league, the USFL. The league played from 1983 to 1985.
