SpongeBob SquarePants is the eponymous character of the Nickelodeon animated comedy SpongeBob SquarePants. He was designed by marine biologist and animator Stephen Hillenburg, and is voiced by Tom Kenny. He was originally voiced by a Garfield voice actor, Thom Huge. SpongeBob SquarePants is very immature and clueless, and his laugh is often annoying to those around him. He can be over-dramatic, especially when it comes to fry cooking, but he is very good natured. SpongeBob is also extremely Clueless and gullible like his Friend, Patrick Star that he usually get tricked easily by Mr.Krabs, Squidward and anyone else that is clear to use him or want to hurt him, Like when SpongeBob foolishly mistakes The Strangler as a bodyguard with only a moustache disguise and an identity card which obviously, it's Strangler, But despite all his idiotism sometimes, He is very Loyal and Kind-Hearted even to Squidward, which openly dislikes him and still selflessly helped him. SpongeBob is never shown to bear a grudge to anyone.Spongebob also has shown a enormous Talent in many things, such as math, karate techniques, art, music(even he is better at Clarinet than Squidward).But his cluelessness makes him never recognise his talent.

The "Normal" SpongeBob

SpongeBob is a porous yellow sponge with large blue eyes, a stubby nose, a large mouth with prominent front buck teeth, dimples and three freckles on each cheek. He is also, at times, shown to have hair, although usually this is a wig. In one episode when his hair has naturally grown longer, he has blond hair, something quite obvious because of his blue eyes and "light" skin that further "develop" the image of SpongeBob having blond hair. He typically wears a white shirt with a red tie and brown rectangle pants (the entire outfit is sometimes referred to as his "pants") - hence his family name - and black leather shoes with shoelaces. When he works at the Krusty Krab, he wears a tall, white hat with a small blue anchor on it as a uniform. He replaces the necktie with a choke bow tie for special events. He sleeps in his street clothes (in the episode Sleepy Time), in pajamas or in underwear, with shoes, or barefoot in various episodes; in the movie he sleeps wearing socks and underwear. He lost his pores, freckles, and square shape in the episode Not Normal.

SpongeBob is a sea sponge, but he is drawn to resemble a kitchen sponge. Due to his soft, pliable frame, he is capable of shape shifting, has some degree of super-"human" durability, can quickly regenerate any parts of his body that are injured or removed, and can even create physical duplicates of himself; in addition, he also gained the ability to run at superhuman speeds in "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy V". Despite all of these abilities, he has shown to be very weak physically; he often struggles greatly with lifting ordinary stuffed animals, which are used as his own personal weight-set. He is sometimes shown to have a skeleton, but he is mainly portrayed as soft, squishy, and boneless. Strangely despite this when he fought Patrick during the Frycook Games, he was shown with huge muscles and was able to match Patrick's strength, who also had huge muscles, in the end however neither won due to them forgiving each other. This form of Spongebob hasn't been seen again since. Being a sponge, he is also absorbent, as shown by engulfing the entire treedome after Sandy force-fed water to him in "Squirrel Jokes". When he cries, he often reabsorbs his tears.

SpongeBob is a child-like happy-go-lucky character. He is usually quite harmless, but can become dangerous when he sets his mind on something; whenever he begins a task, he sticks to it almost religiously, and goes to great lengths to accomplish it. SpongeBob is also a talented fry cook and uses this skill at his job, the Krusty Krab restaurant. It was shown in "Friend or Foe" that he got a hamburger right on his very first try when he was a baby. He also attends Mrs. Puff's Boating School and has failed the boating test over a million times.

He is an incredible singer as he can change his voice, and even in his own voice he can still sing quite well. It also seems that he can read music, since he teaches every member of Squidward's band to play various instruments in one night. He can also play the guitar very skillfully as shown in a number of episodes, and it's implied that he can play many other instruments.

SpongeBob's best friend is a starfish named Patrick Star. Spongebob enjoys jellyfishing, blowing bubbles with Patrick, and often gets into a lot of mischief. He has also won employee of the month over 300 times, until Squidward won it in "Breath of Fresh Squidward", after his personality was changed upon getting shocked in an electric fence.

SpongeBob lives with his pet snail Gary in a large "pineapple house" on 124 Conch Street, Bikini Bottom. The house has been shown to be edible in some episodes, such as "Home Sweet Pineapple". His neighbor is Squidward Tentacles, a squid (hence his name) who is a co-worker at the Krusty Krab, and right beside Squidward's house is SpongeBob's best friend Patrick Star.

SpongeBob attributes his constant failures in his driving test to nervousness behind the wheel; while knowing how to drive, he always panics whenever he gets behind the wheel and cannot concentrate. When Mrs. Puff is replaced with a really tough teacher in "Mrs. Puff, You're Fired", the grueling training he receives ends with him being able to drive quite well, but only while blindfolded.

SpongeBob's skill in karate is shown to vary considerably between episodes; at times, he equals and even outmatches Sandy in skill, while at other times he is incompetent to the point where Sandy regularly sends him flying a considerable distance with a single punch; in "Karate Island", Sandy openly states that her karate skills are better than SpongeBob's by "a country mile."

Although he is usually viewed (at least by Squidward) as exceedingly infantile and stupid, SpongeBob has been portrayed in multiple episodes to be a mathematical genius, capable of doing geometry on a 16-17 year-old level: in "Pre-Hibernation Week", he quickly deduces that he and Sandy have exactly "168 more hours of playtime" left out of the one week before Sandy's hibernation period; in "Squid's Day Off", he quickly counts out 1 quarter, 3 dimes, 7 nickels, and 10 pennies as correct change for a $1.00 bill; in "The Sponge Who Could Fly", he very easily balances Mrs. Puff's finances; in "SpongeHenge", he manages to think out a lot of very hard equations on the level of a university professor about the size, mass, weight and area of the statues he made to lure the jellyfish away from him. While he is not the smartest person under the sea, he is not that stupid and is nowhere near as stupid as his best friend Patrick. He is also easily distracted, although when he puts his mind to a task, as mentioned above, nothing will stop him from succeeding.

A few of SpongeBob's ancestors are seen: Primitive SpongeBob of the Permian period ("SB-129"), SpongeGar of the Quaternary period ("Ugh"), SpongeBuck SquarePants of 1882's Dead Eye Gulch ("Pest of the West"), SpongeBob's grandpa has come up two or three times, and his grandma was shown in "Grandma's Kisses" and "Blackjack".

The episodes "No Free Rides" and "Sleepy Time" suggest that SpongeBob's birthday is July 14, 1986.

In later episodes, he shows more show-off attributes when good things happen to him, an example being "Karate Island." He shows off to Sandy that he is the King of Karate in parts of the episode.

Though SpongeBob has always been voiced by Tom Kenny, his voice does change over the course of the series; his voice is lower than normal in the pilot episode Help Wanted, and after the movie his voice gets slightly higher-pitched (and, some fans say, more annoying).

Personality

SpongeBob's personality is described as a clueless, immature, and happy-go lucky even Hyperactive sometimes. He is also very gullible and extremely determinded person that when he has a task he will stop at nothing to accomplish it, even religiously. SpongeBob has a over-confident and tends to make a small problem like losing a name tag at Missing Identityepisode like a very hard and big problem. SpongeBob is also very selfless, loyal, and a bit naive also gullible that he is foolishly oblivious to the People that plotting to use/hurt him like the Talletale Strangler, Squidward, Plankton, Eugene H. Krabs, even Sandy that giving SpongeBob a distraction in his tasks(although not in purpose) but his selfless personality makes him selflessly helps them, even Squidward who openly dislikes SpongeBob. SpongeBob's behaviour to all people always had a good intentions(Even Annoying Them) but ended up causing a disaster. SpongeBob is also very good-natured and friendly, But when there is an 'important task', He usually becomes paranoid, Short-tempered and even spat a swear. But despite his immature attitude he can sometimes be more mature than Patrick, Squidward, and Mr.Krabs for example in Best Day Everepisode, He acts mature when helping a crying Squidward by removing his teeth to fix his Clarinet, and he is also has many Talents despite his idiotism behaviour such as Driving with a Blind Fold, Maths(Geometry and Science Count), Jugglers, and an Extreme Imagination even superior in Art than Squidward. He is very Kind-Hearted and never shown to bear a grudge to anyone.

*Despite the Krabby Mobile being just like a boat, when Patrick asks "I thought you didn't have a license", Spongebob states that "You don't need a license to drive a sandwich.". This may be due to his skills as a fry cook, allowing him to drive it. Since this occured after the series, it is possible that SpongeBob never did get his license. **When Spongebob stole Sandy's rocket ship him and Patrick went around the moon and crash landed back in Bikini Bottom, he was able to pilot the ship back to the Moon after taking all the citizens of Bikini Bottom, including Patrick, captive.

SpongeBob's Family

SpongeBob has many relatives that have looks of sea sponges and sink sponges. Sea sponges look like round cookies and sink sponges look like the washing sponge material in bathrooms and kitchens.

Interests

Among his favorite activities besides the one Bubble Blowing and the art Karate also Jellyfishing. In the episode: I'm Your Biggest Fanatic, SpongeBob and Patrick went to the Bi-Annual Jellyfish Convention and saw many of their favourite jellyfish enthusiasts, such as Kevin the Sea Cucumber. He is a member of the Club of Jellyspotters and Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy Fanclub. They love Jellyfishing so much, SpongeBob, together with Patrick, he founded the Club SpongeBob with the leader, the Magic Conch Shell, in which both disguised with words communicate, and the Royal Club of good-neighborly Lodge. As we said earlier, SpongeBob and Patrick love Goofy Goober and they also enjoy watching The New Adventures Of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy on TV. He is also interested in Squidward's shirt as seen in: The Paper SpongeBob enjoys rock music, sang "Ripped Pants" in the episode (Vocals & Guitar) in the SpongeBob movie sang "Goofy goober rock" to destroy bucket-heads, in Lights, camera, pants! SpongeBob plays guitar and has a rock portion in "Atlantis SquarePantis" he sings "sweet victory" in Band Geeks, he sings "Oh Baby" when he killed all of the scallops and saved Patty and was the vocals & acoustic guitar in the campfire song song.

SpongeBob is very friendly, very nice, and he loves his family and he has always been there for his friends and he also loves to sing, blow bubbles, go jellyfishing with his friends, go karate with Sandy and he loves his job at the Krusty Krab. Spongebob acts like a child but he is an adult. He hasn't got his license yet because when he takes a test he gets nervous behind the wheel and can't drive.It has been said that sonic the heagehog is a rival of Spongebob.

Social life

Although SpongeBob has several friends, and the citizens of Bikini Bottom often treat him quite friendly, it would seem that most, if not all, citizens of Bikini Bottom have some degree of dislike for him; in fact, a holiday called "National No-SpongeBob Day" has been started. As its name suggests, it is an entire day dedicated to getting away from SpongeBob. Even Patrick goes, stating that everyone needs at least one day away from SpongeBob's laughter. In the ceremony, they build a giant wooden effigy of SpongeBob, burn it down, dance on the ashes like crazy (though some, like Squidward, are actually shown kicking the ashes), and leave on a bus. SpongeBob is more honored than insulted by this, as it is "an entire day dedicated to [him]". He is hinted to have a slight Crush on Sandy that SpongeBob is Like a 'Boyfriend' Figure to her. And he gets 'jealous' when Sandy with another man, example like Larry in the episode Ripped Pants. And there is many times when Sany is present, SpongeBob usually do something to get her attention or Impress her.
