SpongeBob Simulator (titled as SpongeBob SquarePants Simulator) is an officially licensed SpongeBob SquarePants online multiplayer video game created and developed by Gamefam Studios under the group "Gamefam x SpongeBob." It is available to play for free as an experience on the Roblox platform. This game was made as a cooperation between Gamefam and Paramount Game Studios, a division of Paramount, which previously hosted the now-shutdown Nickverse Roblox experience.
SpongeBob Simulator acts as a typical Roblox simulator game, in which the player has to progress through the game by get stronger over time by purchasing buddies to destroy items, unlocking or purchasing cosmetics with special stats, or purchasing one of the many Gamepasses there are to offer. During 2024, the game was updated every Friday but since 2025, the game stopped doing updates in favor of SpongeBob Tower Defense.

History[]
Starting around 2020 and 2021, Roblox had started to mass remove unofficial SpongeBob SquarePants experiences from the Roblox platform via DMCA takedowns initiated by Paramount Global, including popular SpongeBob Roblox experiences such as "The Spongy Construction Project," which were developed by passionate fans and considered by many to be high quality. Many players expressed their anger towards Paramount for their actions as well as towards Gamefam for developing SpongeBob Simulator, revamping Sonic Speed Simulator, employee mistreatment, and more as SpongeBob Simulator picked up development.
In February of 2023, it was announced that Gamefam Studios would be partnering with Paramount Global and Nickelodeon to bring SpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles experiences to Roblox.[1] These games were later revealed to be SpongeBob Simulator and TMNT: Battle Tycoon.

A first look image was found and uploaded by the RBXNews Twitter account on March 2, 2023.[2] Around this time, many accounts were leaking several early character models.
On September 9, 2023, the game was released in beta for 99 Robux and an official launch was announced to be taking place in January 2024.[1]
On October 7, 2023, the game reached its second beta phase with its price being decreased to 49 Robux. Jellyfish Fields was released alongside a new Squidward's secrets quest, featuring an unlockable Caveman SpongeBob skin and a limited Le Spatula UGC avatar accessory.
In December 2023, Gamefam developer "Rev_Squared" confirmed that the game would be released in either December 2023 or January 2024.[3]
On December 29, 2023, Rev confirmed that it was holiday break season at Gamefam, but stated that "it is going to be a fun January," hinting at a January release.[4]
On January 13, 2024, the game's price changed to 25 Robux,[5] similar to many other Roblox games that cost 25 Robux such as Welcome to Bloxburg.
On January 20, 2024, the game became free in its pre-launch exclusively for group members, and had many revamps and additions. A date for the launch was also revealed, with the launch date slated for January 26, 2024. More promotional art was released during this time.[6][7][8][9]
The game's trailer was leaked by AWN on January 25, 2024.[10]
On January 25, 2024, the game's release was delayed to February 2, 2024.[11]
In January 2024, SpongeBob Simulator was confirmed to be in a Super Bowl sponsored event with other Roblox games owned by Gamefam.[12] More items including a UGC item were also confirmed to be given out during launch.
On February 2, 2024, the game officially launched, containing new features, a revamped spawn, and the sponsored Super Bowl LVII cross promotional event.
On March 12, 2024, Gamefam confirmed that SpongeBob Simulator would be part of The Hunt event.[13]

A 25th anniversary event for this game was confirmed on May 22, 2024.[14]
The game currently seems to be in a hiatus, with updates becoming increasingly infrequent. When the game does update, the additions are very minimal and little to no new content, and usually just do re-runs of previous events. It is possible the game could be slowly phasing out in favor of SpongeBob Tower Defense, similar to what occurred with Nickverse and its shutdown.
Promotional events[]
There have been many events that the player can participate in inside the game. This section lists notable promotional events inside of the game.
Limited UGC (Le Spatula)[]
Le Spatula used to be in the cave for a limited time, with only 1,500 copies available. The player would have needed to get 10 secrets from Squidward to get access to the cave with Le Spatula as well as SpongeGar. On October 14, 2023, the Le Spatulas were sold out, making the item unobtainable.
Super Bowl LVIII Nickelodeon Special Event[]

On February 2, 2024, the same day that the game launched, a Super Bowl LVIII cross promotional event occurred in which the player could have earned UGC[15] and other prizes by completing certain NFL related tasks in several Gamefam games, including SpongeBob Simulator, TMNT: Battle Tycoon, Super NFL Tycoon, Twilight Daycare, and Easy Obby. SpongeBob and other SpongeBob characters and easter eggs also appeared in the games that the event was present in. The event ended on February 19, 2024.
In SpongeBob Simulator, during the Super Bowl event, the player would have needed to destroy 200 Wooden Chests and collect 58 items around the Tailgate to obtain a football mount and a Super Bowl SpongeBob shoulder plushie.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem event[]

|
On March 4, 2024, a special event dropped featuring Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed awards. This was the first event in SpongeBob Simulator to not be related to the game or the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise. On the first section of Conch Street, the player could have visited Splinter, who would have given the player quests, similar to how he does in TMNT: Battle Tycoon. The player could have claimed buddies based on the turtles, such as Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello. The player could have also obtained the Pizza Van if they destroyed 300 Graffiti Drills or Safes in Conch Street and collected 50 ooze canisters, pizza boxes or license plates in Conch Street and Jellyfish Fields. This was to promote the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem movie in collaboration with Playmates Toys. The event ended on March 19, 2024, and Leo, Mikey, Donnie, and Raph were removed, but the Pizza Van could still be used by those who obtained it.
The Hunt: First Edition[]
On March 15, 2024, Roblox released an event called The Hunt: First Edition where UGC awards could have been obtained by completing quests in several Roblox games such as Piggy, Pet Simulator 99, Military Tycoon, SpongeBob Simulator, Sonic Speed Simulator, and Twilight Daycare.[16] In SpongeBob Simulator, the player would have needed to destroy 55 chests in Area 1, destroy 100 doubloon piles in Area 2, and destroy 25 drills in Area 3 to earn a badge. An entrance to this game's quests was also able to be seen in The Hunt: First Edition Hub.
SpongeBob 25th Anniversary Special Event[]

On June 21, 2024, a SpongeBob 25th Anniversary cross promotional event occurred in which the player could have completed certain SpongeBob SquarePants related tasks in several Gamefam games, including SpongeBob Simulator, TMNT Battle Tycoon, Car Dealership Tycoon, Tower of Misery, and Twilight Daycare, to earn UGC and other prizes. SpongeBob also appeared in the games that the event was present in. The event ended on July 18, 2024.
In SpongeBob Simulator, during the first week of the event, the player would have needed to destroy 50 Band Geek Nodes and find 50 Instruments. During the second week, the player would have needed to defeat 20 Planktopolis Mech Bosses stages, find 50 Plankton parts, and find 4 boss spawner parts. During the third week, the player would have needed to collect 50 Krabby Patty ingredients. During the fourth and final week, the player would have needed to cook 50 Krabby Patties. The event introduced many new features and zones such as Planktopolis, Krusty Towers, Boss Spawners, and the Krabby Patty Cooking Minigame.

The event ended on August 23, 2024.
In SpongeBob Simulator, the player would have needed to destroy 50 Leo Safes, 50 Raph Safes, 50 Donnie Safes, 50 Mikey Safes, and collect the Turtles' missing items to get the Leo buddy, TMNT Leonardo SpongeBob Shoulder Plushie UGC, and a weapon in TMNT Battle Tycoon.
This was the second event in SpongeBob Simulator to be TMNT-themed, the first being the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem event.
Gameplay[]

The opening screen for the game.
SpongeBob Simulator is a 3D, third-person incremental Roblox simulator platformer game that features open areas in Bikini Bottom and multiple playable characters. The game is built in the Roblox engine, which includes basic walk and jump mechanics. SpongeBob Simulator plays like other Roblox simulator games, in which the player can get stronger the more they play.

The player buying a boatmobile from the boat salesman shark.
When the player joins the game, they will see the main menu featuring Bikini Atoll in the background, and they will spawn in the first section of Conch Street. The other sections can be unlocked by using doubloons and rubies. Doubloons can be obtained by destroying several rocks, crates, chests, and drills throughout the map.
Buddies are the main way to progress through SpongeBob Simulator. In the game, the player can unlock several eggs, which are how buddies can be obtained. They can be opened with a certain number of rings, and as the game progresses, eggs become much more expensive to purchase, but the player's buddies get better stats. The player can also see how many buddies they have on the Clam Codex.
The player can also obtain skins by completing quests. The player can also purchase a boatmobile for 249 Robux.
The game features three types of currency: Doubloons, Rubies, and Wacky Bucks. Doubloons can be obtained by destroying objects throughout each map such as Doubloon Piles, Lobster Traps, Chests, and Drills. Rubies can be obtained by destroying Ruby Piles, which spawn much less frequently as opposed to the other objects.

The player using their buddies to destroy items.
To destroy objects, the player must collect Buddies, which are SpongeBob Simulator's equivalent to pets one would usually see in other simulator games. To obtain buddies, the player must go to the "Buddies" section in the spawn, in which they will find several types of clams.

The player battling Plankton and his guardian robot in order to get to Jellyfish Fields.
There are clams available to purchase with Doubloons, which become more expensive the more the player unlocks. After obtaining Buddies, if the player clicks on an object, the Buddies will run over to the specified object and start destroying it. After a while the object will be destroyed, granting the player Doubloons or Rubies. The better stats a Buddy has, the faster the objects get destroyed. To unlock new worlds, the player must purchase them with doubloons by destroying objects with their buddies or by defeating Plankton's guardian robots at the guarded gates.
The player can upgrade their Buddies by turning them into gold at Patrick's Golden Rock-et Lab. The player can insert a certain amount of the same Buddy for a 20% chance of it turning gold. This process also costs Rubies.
The player can also go to Downtown Bikini Bottom (if unlocked) to turn gold buddies into rainbow buddies at Patrick's Rainbow Rock-et Lab. There are also Imaginaaation Stations where players can do quests. After completing them, they will award the player stardust, and a roulette that can unlock skins or obtain cards for skins the player already owns, which can help upgrade their respective character. They appear in Zone 3, Zone 5, and Zone 9, all featuring a countdown that prevents the player from completing another quest for a period of time. The player can cook Krabby Patties at the Krusty Krab or Krusty Towers to earn buddies and morphs or race at Downtown Bikini Bottom or Fry Cook Stadium to earn mounts.
The player can play on public servers with other Roblox users or create a private server for themselves and friends that they invite. Private servers are free, but a maximum of one private server is allowed per user.
There are events in the game in which the player can earn rewards, such as new morphs, buddies, and mounts, by completing objectives or by using Robux. The player can also trade buddies to other players in exchange for other buddies or Rubies.
Controls[]
Quests[]

The Rescue SpongeBob quest.
The game has a quest feature, in which the main cast give the player missions, typically with some form of story, such as being stuck in a trap. They can grant rewards.
Job Boards (legacy)[]

A Job Board as seen in Area 1 (removed)
Previously, the player would have gotten three missions for every area they unlock, which would have awarded them Wacky Bucks that could have been used to purchase skins and other currencies. However, following Downtown Bikini Bottom being added, these were removed. The Rusty Boatmobile became unobtainable, but could still be used by those who already obtained it. The skins that could have been obtained were moved to Imaginaaation Stations. The missions that used to be on Job Boards were:
Conch Street Area 1:
Open 30 Zone 1 Clams: 100 Wacky Bucks
Destroy 30 Traps in Zone 1: 200 Wacky Bucks
Destroy 300 Doubloon Piles in Zone 1: 500 Wacky Bucks
Conch Street Area 2:
Destroy 40 Traps in Zone 2: 100 Wacky Bucks
Open 50 Rare Buddies in Zone 2: 400 Wacky Bucks

Imaginaaation Stations[]
Imaginaaation Stations are stations in the game that replaced Job Boards. Similar to Job Boards, these stations have a large bamboo board, which displays a quest the player can complete. After completing a quest, stardust is awarded, as well as a roulette, which can unlock skins or cards for skins the player already owns, which can help upgrade their respective character.

Glitches[]
Map clipping[]
When users go into different areas in maps, they can noclip through different parts of the map and through different levels, leaving them stuck there until the player resets their character, warps to a unlocked zone if previously purchased with Rubies prior, or leaves the game.
Infinite jump[]
The player can jump infinitely by switching their avatar and skins over and over. This can be used to get over several barriers and invisible walls. This glitch has later been patched in newer updates when one second cooldowns for skin switching were added.
Boatmobile noclipping[]
Although when players try to spawn boatmobiles near invisible walls or any walls, it will always fail but when they are near a wall sometimes, they can spawn the boatmobile near the invisible wall and use it to noclip.
Pets duplicate[]
The player's pets follow them all the time. But when they are still, they can glitch and duplicate but the duplicate pets will not follow the player. The pets can sometimes be seen without their user when said user leaves the experience.
Ground clipping[]
In different parts of the map, there are possibilities of going under the ground unintentionally, leaving the player stuck under the ground until the player resets their character or leaves the game.
Character models[]
In certain models in the game, character models won't load in the correct manner it was intended to. This is usually caused by bad internet connections or modeling errors. This glitch can also happen when the player uses the "/e dance" emote.
Walk on water glitch[]
While the player can sometimes drown in the water, the player can always walk on top of it without having to respawn or swim in it. Users use this glitch to find hidden Easter eggs such as the cave.
Vehicle driving run[]
Usually when the player enters their vehicle, the player is put in the driving animation, but if the player enters the vehicle in a certain way, the player will be put in the run state.
Emotes glitch[]
When using emotes, the player can use them to glitch into unfinished/locked worlds.
Ground flying[]
When the player is able to get next to the roof of some sort of enclosed building, the player is able to go in-between the roof and the barrier, allowing the player to surf across the roof. This glitch can mostly be performed in the cave and dungeon.
Black sky[]
Sometimes when the player loads into SpongeBob Simulator, the sky will be black, which has a very Halloween-esque aesthetic. However, it is most likely a glitch.
Patrick's Golden Lab glitch[]
The player can push Patrick's gold lab to other places around the map, this is likely due to it not being anchored. The same thing happened to the SpongeBob buddy from Plankton's Power-Ups as this is likely due to not being anchored.
Textures[]
In certain textures in the game, textures on meshes won't load in the correct manner it was intended to. This is usually caused by bad internet connections, texturing errors, or the game loading.
Runaway Boat Glitch[]
When the player uses a boat, they can switch skins which could make the boat drive without them.
Free Imaginaaation Station spins[]
When the player leaves the server while the Imaginaaation Station is still spinning, the player can spin it again. This glitch was patched in newer updates.
Stuck on UGC glitch[]
When the player goes on a UGC item on the UGC stand, the player gets stuck on it and is unable to free themselves until the player leaves the game.
Morphs[]
It was previously possible to obtain morphs from the Job Boards.
