SpongeBob Schwammkopf is the German dub of SpongeBob SquarePants. It is part of International SpongeBob SquarePants.

History

SpongeBob Schwammkopf first aired on Super RTL in 2002 when the channel got the rights to air Nickelodeon shows. Back in 1998, Nickelodeon closed due to its successful rival, KiKa. Nickelodeon relaunched in 2005 under the name NICK, but Super RTL still aired it until 2009.

Since 2006, the show is aired in Austria and Switzerland (also, Bob l'éponge aired in Switzerland [citation needed]).

Trivia

  • Jürgen Kluckert also voices Benjamin Blümchen from the show Benjamin Blümchen, and the character has been referenced in the German dub of the episode "Born Again Krabs," where Mr. Krabs tells the Flying Dutchman that he is not Eugene Krabs but instead tells him that he is "Benjamin Blümchen."
  • In "Christmas Who?," Sandy tells SpongeBob about the Nativity, the Three Wise Men, and Farmhand Rupert. Farmhand Rupert was St. Nicholas' companion in German folklore.
  • In "Band Geeks," instead of a Sedan, Patrick mentions an Opel Kapitän. The Kapitän was a model of the German Opel make of car, which was manufactured from 1938 to 1970.
  • After The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, both Tobias Lelle and Joachim Kaps auditioned for the role of Squidward to replace his original voice actor, Eberhard Prüter, who died in October 2014. Both auditions were streamed online. Lelle had two auditions, in a normal voice and in a slightly more nasal one. The role eventually went to Joachim Kaps.
  • On the original SpongeBob Schwammkopf title card, the sketch of SpongeBob does not have legs.
