The SpongeBob Fanon Wiki, abbreviated SBFW, is a SpongeBob SquarePants fansite where users can create their own spin-offs, episodes, and other fanmade content for other users to read and review. It was founded on November 8, 2008 by Arre 320, and is the largest SpongeBob SquarePants wiki in terms of number of pages, with over 20,000 pages, surpassing Encyclopedia SpongeBobia.

It previously served as the fanon wiki for the SpongeBobia network before being replaced by Fanonia SpongeBobia following a proposal.

The wiki was closed by Fandom Staff on September 13, 2018 before being restored on April 30, 2019. In place of it, a fork of the site, SpongeBob New Fanon Wiki, was opened on September 11, 2018.

History

The wiki was created on November 8, 2008 by Arre 320, who became inactive not long after its founding. After several months of inactivity, Ponyo Fan adopted the wiki in August 2011 and promoted JellyfishJam38, William Leonard, and JCM, who would help her take the wiki to new heights.

In 2013, a collaboration with ESB was formed along with SpongeBob Universe, and later as a project. However, due to tensions between the administrations of the two wikis, the group was peacefully dissolved with a farewell address made by AMK152.

On September 13, 2018, the wiki was closed by Fandom Staff due to excessive amounts of drama, controversies, and disruption, less than two months before its tenth anniversary. Most of the content was promptly ported to a fork wiki created two days before its closure. On April 30, 2019, the wiki was restored by Fandom Staff under the condition that no more excessive drama would take place on the wiki.
