  • The caption on the front cover makes a wordplay. Instead using the term "Pants on fire," it says, "SquarePants on fire!"
  • In Substitute Teacher! comic strip, a green fish in a taxi has a speech bubble that says, "〽️⚡#!" This is meant to show that the fish is swearing, and it is depicted by substituting symbols as a form of censorship.
  • The comic strip Substitute Teacher! has a similar plot to the episode "The Getaway," as both involve a criminal pretending to be a new driving instructor in order to take advantage of SpongeBob's driving while escaping the police.
