The Nintendo DS version of SpongeBob's Surf & Skate Roadtrip is a SpongeBob SquarePants video game developed by Sabarasa Inc. and published by THQ.[1] Much like its Xbox 360 counterpart, it is based on the SpongeBob's Runaway Roadtrip tentpole event and was released in November 2011. It features two modes of play: Story and Challenge.

Description[]

The Story Mode in this version is identical to the one seen in the Xbox 360 version, SpongeBob and Patrick relive their crazy road trip to the beach through some slideshows leading into arcade-style play. In Challenge Mode, a player can do freestyle and explore a new never-before-seen world in Bikini Bottom. The Nintendo DS version has a bonus snowboarding gameplay included, but it requires to complete the main story mode first to unlock this feature. The DS version has 70 snowboarding levels.

Prototype cover 2.

  • In the game's first trailer and early advertising, a prototype cover was used. This is because the game didn't have a finalized cover art at the time. The prototype consisted of a Rating Pending (RP) from the ESRB, the system logo, the new THQ logo, and the game's logo placed centered on a white or yellow background.
  • The Nintendo DS version of this video game has backward compatibility and can be played on all DSi/3DS/2DS units.
  • The sprites in the Nintendo DS version are very similar to the graphics found in the Nintendo DS versions of Nicktoons: Attack of the Toybots and SpongeBob SquarePants featuring Nicktoons: Globs of Doom.
  • This is the second and final SpongeBob SquarePants video game to use the new THQ logo. The first was SpongeBob SquigglePants.
