The game has received mixed reviews. Andrew Hayward of the Official Xbox Magazine reviewed the video game and wrote "Surf & Skate Roadtrip remains a decent Kinect pick for a few hours of amusement, especially for young SpongeBob fans."[2] Mike of the 123Kinect.com gave the video game a 5/10 rating based on 123 reviews. He wrote "If you or your kids are fine with the foot deal, then its really a mediocre game, may give them something to do for a day or two but that will probably be it. I'd wait until it's in the bargain bin if you must have it."[3] Common Sense Media's review of this video game stated that the game is fun but forgettable.[4]

Trivia[]
General[]
- In the game's first trailer and early advertising, a prototype cover was used. This is because the game didn't have a finalized cover art at the time. The prototype consisted of a Rating Pending (RP) from the ESRB, the system logo, the new THQ logo, and the game's logo placed centered on a white or yellow background.
- The Nintendo DS version of this video game has backward compatibility.
- The Nintendo DS version can be played on all DSI/3DS/2DS units.
- The Nintendo DS version has a bonus snowboarding gameplay included, but you have to complete the main story mode first to unlock this feature. The DS version has 70 snowboarding levels.
