"Spin the Bottle" is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season 11. In this episode, Plankton poses as a wish-granting genie in his latest scheme to get the secret formula.

Characters[]

Synopsis[]

The episode begins with Plankton disguising himself as a genie in a bottle, in a plan to steal the formula where he will break the bottle so Mr. Krabs would have to put him in the secret formula bottle. Karen finds this plan dumb and rolls the bottle out of the Chum Bucket, causing it to bounce around until it reaches the Krusty Krab.

SpongeBob obtains it and goes for a lunch break so he can play with it. When he reaches home, he rubs the bottle, making it hot and cause Plankton to come out of it. He tries to get SpongeBob to go to Mr. Krabs, but he tells him he is the one who makes the wishes, and starts taking the bottle to his friends.

He first brings it to Squidward, who is annoyed to see SpongeBob, though wishes for a golden clarinet that plays well. Plankton paints a clarinet gold and makes it sound good while he is playing it, to Squidward's delight. Next, he goes to Patrick, who struggles to make a wish until he wishes for a second head, so he could have someone to talk to while SpongeBob is working and Plankton draws a face on his hand. However, he ends up beating himself up after his wish backfires. Finally, SpongeBob goes to Mr. Krabs, who ignores him at first, as he does not believe it. Eventually, he is convinced to do so and wishes for one thousand dollars and Plankton withdraws money to keep up the ruse.

After seeing that his wish came true, Mr. Krabs becomes greedy and tries to possess the bottle. Squidward and Patrick come to also possess the bottle for more wishes, but after a while, SpongeBob tells them they should spin the bottle to see who gets it. It lands on Squidward, but Plankton purposely makes it land on Mr. Krabs. He takes the bottle into the kitchen and wishes for everything in the Krusty Krab to turn into gold. Realizing he can't keep up the charade anymore, Plankton reveals himself and explains his plan. At that moment, the real genie shows up to take back his genie bottle, revealing he loaned it to Plankton while he was on vacation. He then punishes Patrick, Squidward, Plankton, and Mr. Krabs for their greed and the misuse of his bottle by trapping them in an empty ketchup bottle. The genie disappears with his bottle as he promised that he will take it with him when he visits his mother.

SpongeBob comes into the kitchen and finds it empty, believes his friends reconciled before the bottle rolls up to him. He sees his friends begging him to release them, but mistaking them for old ketchup and throws the bottle away as the episode ends.

Trivia[]

General[]

Cultural references[]

  • The bottle itself resembles the bottle as seen in the 1965 series, "I Dream of Jeannie."
  • The title of this episode comes from the game of the same name.
    • Patrick mentions the real purpose of the game.
  • The phrase "for cod's sake." is a play on the phrase "for God's sake."
  • Plankton's line "Izzy wizzy, let's get busy" is a catchphrase from the 1955 British puppet show, Sooty.

Errors[]

  • During the first shot of the episode, the path to the Krusty Krab is missing.
  • When Plankton and Karen are talking, the machine next to them has two green buttons. However, in the next scene, the two green buttons are gone.
  • During the frame when the bottle is rolling to the Krusty Krab, the path to that restaurant appears to be curved with the ground being formed to be hills, although the path should be straight and be directly the same to the Chum Bucket.
