Synopsis[]

Act 1[]

Hans tells a fishy fairytale called, Snow Yellow and the Seven Jellies.

Hans tells a fishy fairytale called, Snow Yellow and the Seven Jellies.

Hans introduces himself to the audience, before grabbing a book off his bookshelf to tell a fishy fairytale called Snow Yellow and the Seven Jellies. The story revolves around a happy little prince named Snow Yellow (played by SpongeBob) and his evil step-motherboard Queen Karen (played by Karen). The story begins with Snow Yellow graciously greeting all his fellow royal subjects with priceless castle jewels. He then performs a morning duet with his reflection in the wishing well, which ends up disrupting Queen Karen from her morning update. She angrily throws down a frozen glass slipper from her balcony, crushing Snow Yellow's reflection, and orders him to clean the royal restrooms. But then, Queen Karen notices that Snow Yellow is squarer than usual. Snow Yellow explains that his big boy edges had just grown in, leaving Queen Karen appalled. She goes to consult her magic mirror (played by Plankton) on who the squarest in the land is, to which the magic mirror says that Snow Yellow is the squarest. Furious with this revelation, Queen Karen devices an evil scheme to de-square the prince and become the squarest in the land. She orders her royal huntsman (played by Bubble Bass) to take Snow Yellow into the forest and cut his square corners off, threatening to cut off his own if he doesn't.

Meanwhile, Snow Yellow is happily prancing through the forest, while the huntsman gives chase. But Snow Yellow is prancing too fast for the huntsman to keep up, so Snow Yellow offers to make him a Krabby Patty to help him get his energy up. As Snow Yellow is cooking, the huntsman attempts to cut off his square corners, but after seeing his completed patty, the huntsman breaks down crying and reveals Queen Karen's intentions to the prince. The huntsman tells Snow Yellow to run into the forest and never return to the castle.

Snow Yellow discovers the house of the seven jellies.

Snow Yellow discovers the house of the seven jellies.

Snow Yellow races through the spooky woods before coming across a small house shaped like a jellyfish hive with the help of a sea urchin. The young prince decides to let himself in, and discovers a dinner table with seven chairs, each with a name on them. Upon seeing the house covered in jelly stains, the prince takes it upon himself to clean up, hoping that whoever lives in the house will let him stay. However, he ends up getting stuck in the jelly stains, and decides to take a quick nap.

Elsewhere, seven jellyfish, known as the seven jellies, are mining jelly in the hills. Just then, their alarm clock goes off, signaling the end of the day's shift, and the jellies take their cart full of fresh jelly back to their house in the forest. But they are surprised to find what they think is a snoring monster in their kitchen.

Act 2[]

Upon seeing Snow Yellow, the seven jellies initially attack him, thinking his is a monster, until the prince wakes up and happily greets them. Snow Yellow then recognizes the jellies by their respective names: Nutty (played by Sandy), Krusty (played by Mr. Krabs), Puffy (played by Mrs. Puff), Dummy (played by Patrick), Cooty (played by Old Man Jenkins), Gary (played by himself), and Drippy (played by Squidward). While Snow Yellow explains his dilemma to the jellies, the huntsman is feeding lies to Queen Karen about cutting off the prince's square edges. But upon consulting the magic mirror once again, she soon discovers the huntsman's lie and sentences him to a pit full of alligators. The queen then decides to cut off Snow Yellow's square edges herself, so she disguises herself as a witch and makes a candy ball out of poisoned chum to feed to Snow Yellow.

The next morning, the jellies all head off to work, as Snow Yellow thanks them for letting him stay and offers to cook them jelly patties for dinner that evening. Then, Queen Karen arrives at the house and offers Snow Yellow her poisoned treat. Snow Yellow takes a bite and is sent into a dehydrated sleep, as Queen Karen happily celebrates. But then, Dummy returns, having forgotten his pickaxe, and is terrified by what he thinks is an evil witch. Queen Karen is so startled that she accidentally unfolds her disguise and exposes herself. Dummy quickly sends out an electric distress signal to the other jellies, prompting them to race back to the house.

The jellies discover that Snow Yellow has been dried out.

The jellies discover that Snow Yellow has been dried out.

Upon discovering Snow Yellow has been dried out, the jellies decide to avenge him by pursing Queen Karen. Using rocket boosters, Queen Race races back to her castle, with the jellies hot on her tale. Upon seeing the commotion, the magic mirror decides to leave under his own feet. The jellies chase Queen Karen all the way to the roof, where she attempts to squish them with a large stone. But the jellies then start unscrewing her with screwdrivers, causing her to fall apart and drop the stone, crushing the magic mirror in the process.

With the queen defeated, the jellies place what is left of Snow Yellow in a sponge dish to keep him from molding. They and several forest creatures mournfully cry over this, as their tears unintentionally manage to revive the prince. Snow Yellow thanks the jellies for saving him and offers them to stay at his place. Hans then closes the book, and bids farewell to the audience.

Production notes[]

Ibrahim Buenrostro:

  • Corona said that he got to work on a couple of musical bits in this episode, which he enjoyed. However, when he did the storyboard, he wasn't sure if his character poses would work with the final audio rather than with just the preliminary audio, although it ended up coming out well. He thanked Dave Cunningham for putting his trust and support in him on this episode, and praised Dan Becker's rough storyboard, calling it "awesome."[11]

Vicente Carretero:

  • Carretero said he was "super thankful for the opportunity" to storyboard on the episode, and that he "learned a ton" while working on it. He also said it was "so surreal to see [his] name" in the end credits.[12]

Abril Aello Fregozo:

  • Fregozo thanked "the amazing" Ann Lee and Lucy Tanashian-Gentry for their art direction, and considered herself "lucky to have the opportunity to learn so much from these awesome artists." She also credited "the coolest" Rebekie Bennington for designing the layouts.[5]

Amy Lewis:

  • Lewis thanked Ann Lee and Lucy Tanashian-Gentry for "taking on the Art Direction" at the time of production, saying she "grew a lot" while working on the episodes being produced.[8]

  • This episode, along with "Sandy's Country Christmas," was released on the Another 100 Episodes and The Best 300 Episodes Ever DVDs, both of which were released on October 15, 2024, 27 days before airing on American television or anywhere in the world.
    • However, while the DVD releases[13] and Canadian airings on YTV[14] and Nickelodeon Canada[15] have the original title, on TV listings, digital releases, and on Amazon Prime Video,[16] the episode is simply called "Snow Yellow," even having a different title card on American television airings and globally.[17][18][19]
      • The on-screen credits along with the closing credits on DVD releases and international airings call this episode "Snow Yellow and the Seven Jellies." The closing credits on digital releases call it "Snow Yellow."
  • This episode was originally scheduled for broadcast on American television on October 25, 2024,[20] but was later pushed back to November 11, likely due to it conflicting with Nickelodeon's Halloween programming as well as the 31 Nights of Frights event.
  • Plankton the magic mirror's defeat is likely a reference to "seven years bad luck" when a mirror was broken.
  • In the UK and Ireland, three small edits were made: firstly, the scene where the huntsman throws his scissors in the air was replaced with just a still shot of Snow Yellow, secondly, the lightning flashes as Queen Karen laughs evilly were slowed down, and thirdly, the flashing lights when all seven of the jellies sting Snow Yellow off-screen were also slowed down.[21] Even before these scenes were confirmed to have been edited in the episode itself, the first two edits were evidenced in a promo for this episode in the UK and Ireland, which was otherwise the same as a US promo, except the close-up shot of Queen Karen accompanied by lightning flashes was replaced with a scene of her putting on a witch's nose, and the scene with the huntsman holding a pair of scissors was replaced with a scene of him drawing a square in the air.[22][23]
  • This episode marks the first time two specials are packaged next to each other, with this coming directly after "Kreepaway Kamp."
  • This marks the first time that Hans introduces an episode.
  • This is the first special episode since "It's a SpongeBob Christmas!" to premiere exclusively on DVD in the United States before premiering on TV.
  • This is the second Nicktoon to parody "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." The first was "Tales from the Crib: Snow White" from Rugrats.
  • This is the fourth episode based on a fairytale. The first was "Patnocchio," the second was "The Big Bad Bubble Bass," and the third was "Plankton and the Beanstalk."
  • This is the sixth episode where SpongeBob does not appear, and the fifth to only feature an alternate counterpart of SpongeBob instead of the main-universe SpongeBob.
    • The first was "The Algae's Always Greener" (where he only appears in the Mr. Plankton universe), the second was "Welcome to Binary Bottom" (as SpongeBot), the third was "Dopey Dick" (as Captain SpongeHab), and the fourth was "Plankton and the Beanstalk" (as SpongeGoose). SpongeBob was completely absent in "BassWard."
    • This is the first half-hour special where SpongeBob is absent, and the second time in the series where he is absent for the whole half-hour episode, after "Dopey Dick"/"Plankton and the Beanstalk."
  • In airing order, this is the last episode to use the 2017 Nickelodeon Productions logo at the end of the credits. In packaging order, however, "The Dirty Bubble Bass" and "Sheldon SquarePants" are the last.
  • This is the last special episode to have Andrew Overtoom as animation director.
