Smell-O-Vision was an hour-long block of Nickelodeon weeknight reruns and premieres, mainly based around the gimmick of smelling the aromas found in the ongoing program. This was accomplished by obtaining special scratch-and sniff cards found in select Kraft Products.[1] Running during the third week of September 1999, it was the second event to air SpongeBob SquarePants, and the first to premiere new episodes of the series. The entire event reran the next week, from Monday through Friday between 4:00pm and 5:00pm.[1]

Trivia[]

  • This is the second event to occur in 1999 and the first event to premiere episodes from season 1.
    • This is also the first event to premiere episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants.
  • The Wild Thornberrys was the most aired series during this event, with four premieres, and four subsequent encores, totaling eight airings.
    • Cousin Skeeter and Rocket Power tied for second place, with two premieres and two encores, totaling four airings.
      • Both CatDog and SpongeBob tied for third place, with two total airings. SpongeBob had one premiere and one encore. CatDog didn't have any new episodes, as the initial "Smell-O-Vision" Friday night run was an encore of an episode that premiered in February 1999.
  • The symbol that signaled one to "sniff" at the bottom right part of the screen was filmed along with the episodes "Sandy's Rocket" and "Squeaky Boots" in American TV airings, and not edited out until late 2002, almost three years after the scratch-and-sniff card packs were put out of circulation.[16]
