Differences between the book and episode[]

  • Sandy Cheeks, Mrs. Puff, and Pearl do not make appearances in this book, unlike the episode this book is based on.
  • The book starts with SpongeBob doing his nighttime routine before bed, which did not happen in the episode.
  • SpongeBob's dream starts with him working at the Krusty Krab before driving in a hot rod in the book. That scene did not appear in the episode.
  • Patrick's dream is different in this book compared to the episode. In the episode, Patrick is riding on a seahorse kiddie ride, while here, Patrick is simply standing with a balloon.
  • In the book, SpongeBob shows Patrick what to do in a dream by changing into many things, but accidentally pops his balloon and leaves the dream quietly as if to escape trouble. In the episode, he turns into a skyscraper and makes a million of him, but Patrick does not listen and he leaves the dream in a huff.
  • In Squidward's dream, Squidward is not called Wolfgang Amadeus Tentacles in the book unlike the episode.
  • Plankton is dressed up as a king in his dream, unlike in the episode.
  • Moby Dollar was gendered as a male in the book. In the episode, Moby Dollar is female.
  • In the book, Mr. Krabs loses Moby Dollar when SpongeBob trips and plows into him. In the episode, Moby Dollar escapes when SpongeBob puts down the wallet he trapped her in.
  • When Plankton Shrunk Back To Normal Size, He Said "Any of you know how to play Go Fish?" Instead Of "Well, I guess I've got some explaining to do, huh?"
  • Before SpongeBob wakes up, he does not see the disembodied heads of his friends in the book unlike the episode, but he still hears their voices.
  • At the end, Patrick says "Hey look, a balloon!" instead of "Does anyone have a quarter?"
