Shmandor is a utopian city made entirely of hand-blown glass situated within the Star house, often hidden away in places like the underside of rugs and beneath the kitchen sink. It first appears in the episode "Late for Breakfast."
Description[]
It is a futuristic city made of blue glass. The city has at least one restaurant, various hollow homes, a subway station, and a shopping center, which sells socks, sandals, cameras, and eggs.
Role in series[]
"Late for Breakfast"[]
While Patrick is looking for food, he flips over a carpet and discovers Shmandor, watching in awe as the city releases a shower of fireworks. After a bit, he recoils in disgust and mentions that his mother should vacuum more often.
"Shrinking Stars"[]
On their run from GrandPat, the Stars are rescued by Rubedor, who shows them around town and what it offers. Patrick is delighted, and asks Cecil if they can live here. He agrees, and says that the town is so beautiful it makes him feel like singing. He does exactly that, which destroys Shmandor.
"Host-a-Palooza"[]
The city appears as one of the guest hosts trying to replace an injured Patrick, putting on a magic show where it summons Pinkeye from a top hat. When the act fails, Squidina absentmindedly steps on Shmandor as she calls for the next host.
"The Prehistoric Patrick Star Show"[]
While Patrick CaveStar is looking for food, he discovers a prehistoric version of Shmandor under a tiger rug. As he tries to lick it, the Shmandorians retaliate by throwing weapons at his tongue, causing Patrick to angrily crush the city with a rock.
"The Patrick Show Cashes In"[]
Patrick sells a Shmandor snow globe on his show. He attempts to feed the residents with his own cereal, but it only contains prizes, and ends up destroying the city.
"The Wrath of Shmandor"[]
The city of Shmandor are introduced to television, which they watch Patrick's show on. However, they imitate his destructive behavior and wreck the city, forcing Rubedor and the Shmandorian army to destroy Patrick. They are unsuccessful until the Shmandorian sergeant wires himself into Patrick's head and demands that the city's residents attack him. After Squidina unknowingly ruins this assault, she talks to a Shmandorian scientist and gives him the idea to simply turn off the TV if they do not want Patrick's show to influence the city.
Trivia[]
- The city as a whole is a reference to the Bottle City of Kandor, a shrunken city from the Superman series. It's also partially inspired by the miniature city found in The Twilight Zone episode "The Little People" due to the large headless statue within the city.
- "Late for Breakfast" is the only episode where Shmandor appears and is not destroyed.
- Curiously, Sandals is shown living here in "Shrinking Stars." This makes him the only character within the city who is not a variant of Rube.
