Synopsis

The episode starts with Mr. Krabs singing about his love and greed for money. Then, an extremely rich man named Howard Blandy comes into the Krusty Krab and asks to buy the restaurant from Mr. Krabs for a large sum of money. Mr. Krabs happily accepts, leaving SpongeBob and Squidward with a simple "See you around," causing SpongeBob to cry hysterically. SpongeBob and Squidward leave the Krusty Krab to ask Mr. Krabs what is happening, he then tells them that he is retiring.

Afterwards, a new manager named Carl comes to them, renaming The Krusty Krab "Krabby O'Monday's." Mr. Krabs drives by, but ignores it, instead going to the newly opened Bikini Bottom Hook Museum, then when he is trying to paint a bowl of fruit, he actually paints a bowl of Krabby Patties instead, followed by a round of golf; however, he then realizes that he hates golf. Mr. Krabs has done everything he wanted to do and decides to go home, where he realizes he has nothing to do. He tries to talk to his daughter, Pearl, but Pearl kicks Mr. Krabs out of the house and tells him to get a job, a hobby, or some friends.

Downtrodden, Mr. Krabs goes to the beach to look for a job, but hits a glass door, with a sign saying "Help Wanted." It is one of the glass doors of the Krabby O'Monday's, so he goes inside to take a look at what job is vacated.

Meanwhile, Carl wants Squidward to have more spirit, so he threatens Squidward with Human Resources.

"you wouldn't want to have to talk to human resources...would you?"

Fearful, Squidward continues his work with a forced smile. Mr. Krabs gets a job at the Krabby O'Monday's working as a busboy, listening to SpongeBob complain about the problems. The problems are that the patties are processed and there is an automated cash register, with no one watching it. Angered, Mr. Krabs complains, only to be ignored by Carl. He also finds out how the new patties are synthetically engineered, fake and disgusting.

Now furious, Mr. Krabs shows the customers what the food is actually made of and the customers find out that the patties are made out of gray material. So they run away, making the restaurant unpopular. Carl calls Howard to tell him what Mr. Krabs is doing. Mr. Krabs plugs the fake patty maker up, but escaping, processing slush and the pressurized air inside cause the whole restaurant to explode.

Mr. Krabs retakes ownership of the destroyed restaurant by giving all his money back to Howard and changes the restaurant's name back to "The Krusty Krab," saying that he got back the love of his "dear friends," that is until the episode ends with a demand for Squidward and SpongeBob to clean up the mess. Then Mr. Krabs presses the cash register, causing dollar bills to appear on the screen, making it black and the episode ends.

General

• C.H. Greenblatt voices Carl, manager of the Krabby O'Monday's. This may be a reference to Greenblatt's first name, Carl. It should also be noted that Carl is a fish-caricature of Greenblatt.
• This was the first episode Zeus Cervas worked on as a writer and storyboard director.
• This was the first episode Erik Wiese wrote since "Fools in April" from season 1 and his first episode as a storyboard director since "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy III" from season 2.
  • This episode was also the first of a total of 10 episodes that Zeus Cervas and Erik Wiese worked on together as writers.
• Despite mistreating his employees most of the time, Mr. Krabs is shown that he wouldn't stoop so low as to make fake food or physically threaten the staff.
• This episode became controversial due to big businesses along with a season 7 special "SpongeBob's Last Stand".
• When the Krabby O'Monday's is being flooded by the Synthetic Krabby Patties, it is revealed that Mable-Monica wears a wig.

Cultural references

• Krabby O'Monday's is possibly a cross between the fictional Krusty Krab and real-life casual dining restaurants like O'Charley's, Beef O'Brady's, and especially TGI Friday's. The employees all wear colorful lapel buttons on their vests and the restaurant also has red-and-white pinstripe tables, which used to be a trademark of TGI Friday's.
• The trailer that has the suitcases full of money reads "U Pull" on the side. This is a parody of U-Haul.

Errors

• At some point, Mr. Krabs says that he does not know how to ride a bike, yet earlier in the episode, when he is singing the song of the photo album with Pearl, one of the photos shows Mr. Krabs teaching Pearl how to ride a bike.
• When Mr. Krabs sings about sounds and sights, he slams a bird in his book. This, however, does not make sense because birds do not live underwater. It's possible that the bird in Krabs' song could've been a sea bird if it lived underwater.

• All the customers flee after they see the gray gunk they are eating. However, when Krabby O'Monday's gets flooded with the gunk, all the customers are back in the restaurant.
• After Pearl kicks Mr. Krabs out of the house, he searches for metal on the beach with his metal detector. However, he walks into Krabby O'Monday's in the middle of the beach. When he looks up at it, he is suddenly at the Krabby O'Monday's parking lot.
• Frank has a female voice when he says "What did he say? Garbage?"
• All the customers scream when they run out of the Krabby O'Monday's, but their mouths are closed.
• The boat is parked in front of the restaurant, however, Mr. Krabs passes the restaurant again when he drives away.
• The human resource room is called the HUMAN RESOURCE ROOM, although most of Bikini Bottom's citizens are fish, so it should be a FISH RESOURCE ROOM.
• The lady asks Squidward to sing the 'Krabby Monday's' birthday song when the restaurant is actually called the Krabby O'Monday's.
