— Scooter, various episodes
Character

Incidental 38, officially named Scooter, is a surfer fish. Along with Larry the Lobster, he is a common attendee of Goo Lagoon. He is easily identified by his high-pitched, shaky voice and commonly speaking surfer lingo.

He first appears in the episode "Ripped Pants" and is most commonly voiced by Carlos Alazraqui. He was a prominent recurring character in the first three seasons, but from the fourth season onward, Alazraqui has been mostly absent from the show. Scooter's roles and voice have been mostly inconsistent since then.

Description

He is a lavender-purple fish with light purple fins and legs and light green lips. He typically wears swim trunks with a floral design.

In his first few appearances, he is purple with lavender and yellow swim trunks. In some of "Walking Small," he is green with red swim trunks and sandals. Since the end of "Walking Small," he has been lavender with light green and yellow swim trunks.

In "Friend or Foe," he briefly appears with Incidental 36's red-orange color scheme. In The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, he is blue with green swim trunks.

Biography

He is voiced by Carlos Alazraqui in most episodes, but is voiced by Clancy Brown in the episode "Wigstruck," and Dee Bradley Baker in "Sponge-Cano!" Most of the time, he is very happy and supportive to SpongeBob and laughs in approval.

In "Ripped Pants," he is a big supporter of SpongeBob's ripped pants jokes. However, after SpongeBob pretends to drown, Scooter says "Dude..." sadly and walks away.

He dies and turns into an angel when he drowns in the high tide in the episode "Bubble Buddy." In later episodes, he is somehow alive.

In "Party Pooper Pants," Scooter goes to SpongeBob's party. SpongeBob tells Squidward: "If you've got a case of the jabberjaws, I can hook you up with Scooter." He then brings Scooter over to Squidward and has them talk together.

In "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy IV," he says "Hey, SpongeDude!" as he runs up to SpongeBob. SpongeBob panics and shrinks Scooter with Mermaid Man's utility belt.

In "The Executive Treatment," he appears as a businessman. He befriends Patrick and mistakes him for another businessperson.

In the book SpongeBob Rocks!, he is a devoted fan of SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy's rock band "Tidal Wave." He wears a wave-themed shirt and visits the band backstage at the Poseidome Colosseum. There, he asks them where their drums and guitars are, and they tell Scooter that they will use seashells instead.

Trivia

Scooter's model

  • In "Bubble Buddy," he supposedly dies and appears as an angel. Due to the show's lack of flowing continuity between episodes, this does not affect any other stories, and he is seen alive in every season afterward.
    • This was covered in the sixth video of the non-canonical web series Bikini Bottom Mysteries. The video was titled "Scooter’s Haunting Secret" and discussed possible theories as to how he came back to life.
  • His appearance is similar to Sandals.
  • On the sheet of incidental characters compiled by Vincent Waller, Scooter is one of the few characters with a label other than his model number. Waller labeled him as "The Dude."
