Book

Sandy's Rocket is a SpongeBob SquarePants book that was published by Scholastics/Nickelodeon on May 1, 2001 and is based on the episode of the same name. It is the sixth SpongeBob SquarePants chapter book.

Synopsis[]

"Sandy builds a rocket ship designed to go to the moon. SpongeBob decides to come and begins asking if he can go with him. Sandy hastily approves, and SpongeBob goes to sleep, but Patrick wakes him up, and they decide to go to the rocket themselves. When they reach there, they play with the buttons until one of them hits the Launch button. They are weightless and actually bypass the moon, but then gravity turns itself back on. They arrive from the rocket near Squidward's house, believing that they have reached the moon, when, in fact, they are still in their normal area. Then, they begin zapping SpongeBob's friends, calling them "aliens," and chaos ensues!"

Trivia[]

Differences between the book and the episode[]

  • In the book, SpongeBob goes to meet Sandy to show her a new karate move he'd seen on TV. However, in the episode, it is not stated why he came over.
  • In the episode, Sandy does not want SpongeBob to come with her to the moon because of some mishap with a helicopter. In the book, it's because he went with her to find the Lost City of Atlantis. They found it and SpongeBob lost it.
  • In the book, when SpongeBob and Patrick enter the boating school, Mrs. Puff sends SpongeBob to the corner for sneering at her and thinking she's an alien, while in the episode, she does not.
  • In the book, SpongeBob and Patrick find Pearl at the Whale Watchers Mall and captured her using six nets due to her size. She complains that the nets do not go with her outfit. Next, they capture Plankton, who was sneaking into the Krusty Krab to steal a Krabby Patty. Neither of these scenes were in the episode.
  • Near the end of the book, SpongeBob was caught by Sandy after he and Patrick played around with her rocket. However, in the episode counterpart, Sandy was captured and Patrick captured himself. The scene pertaining to the moon was not shown.
  • In the book, after Patrick says "Oh, it's not you that's got me, it's me that's got me!" and captures himself, he shouts, "Help! I'm an alien!" He does not say that in the episode.
  • At the end of the book, SpongeBob realizes his mistake and frees everyone, opting to stay on the moon as punishment for causing the events, something Squidward agrees. Sandy does not and is able to repair the rocket and return to Bikini Bottom. However, she does punish SpongeBob by catching him in a net and throwing him in the cargo hold. The episode ends with SpongeBob crashing on the moon with all the people he and Patrick caught saying, "SpongeBob, we aliens would like a word with you."
