Plankton-Gary relationship

This article documents the relationship between Sheldon J. Plankton and Gary the Snail. Plankton and Gary first appear together in the season 1 episode "Sleepy Time" and first interact in the video game Operation Krabby Patty. In the season 7 episode "Shellback Shenanigans," Plankton disguises himself as Gary to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula. Gary is well aware of his attempts to steal the formula and his disguises and will always stop him from doing so.

History

For two whole seasons, they didn't have another interaction until The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. Towards the end of the film, SpongeBob gives Gary a Krabby Patty with mayonnaise. However, SpongeBob notices something fishy as he says that Gary hates mayo. The Gary is then revealed to be a robot that Plankton was controlling. The real Gary comes into the Krusty Krab and growls at Plankton, causing him to run away in fear.

Plankton and Gary's next interaction is in "Pineapple Invasion," where they face each other in fighting and beating each other after SpongeBob hid the Krabby Patty formula in his house. Plankton soon goes into Gary's shell but starts to hallucinate thanks to the gas and lack of breathable air in the shell, causing Plankton to fail and pick up a grocery list instead.

In The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, he plans on kidnapping Gary and sending SpongeBob on a risky mission to also get Gary from the Lost City of Atlantic City, to get rid of him forever. Later, he goes alongside Squidward, Eugene H. Krabs, and Sandy to save SpongeBob and Patrick from King Poseidon and getting executed, as well as to save Gary too.
