"Pineapple Playlist" is a SpongeBob SquarePants Pineapple Playhouse short. In this short, it's all music videos, featuring the tearjerker Gary Come Home as well as the F.U.N. Song, the Campfire Song Song, This Grill Is Not a Home, and the Krusty Krab Pizza jingle.

Synopsis[]

Pineapple Playlist 028

SpongeBob tries to bring attention to Gary by co-piloting a plane with Patrick.

Following a sneak peek of what's to come, the short starts off with a recreation of the "Gary Come Home" ballad sung by Stew from "Have You Seen This Snail?," which features a heart-broken SpongeBob trying to bring attention to the disappearance of Gary. He and Patrick put up posters, paint over a billboard, and even co-pilot a plane to create word clouds in the air, which eventually goes downhill, as Patrick wants peanuts, and steers the plane into an unseen doom.

The scene then transitions into the "F.U.N." song from the eponymous episode, as SpongeBob sings a song about fun to Plankton, and the two embrace in it and sing about all the joyful activities they can do. However, a disappointed Mr. Krabs looking from afar views it as mutiny.

After another transition, the scene cuts to SpongeBob singing "The Campfire Song Song" from "The Camping Episode" to Squidward and Patrick as a way to unwind. Patrick tries to sing along, but Squidward grumpily stares in silence. When the song ends on a powerful rock beat, SpongeBob asks Squidward if he thought it was relaxing - to which Squid replies "No!"

Penultimately, the short transitions to the power ballad "This Grill is Not a Home" from "Welcome to the Chum Bucket," which features SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs mourning for each other in song, believing that work won't be the same without each other. The bit ends with Plankton looking over a crying SpongeBob from the monitoring view of Karen.

Pineapple Playlist 112

SpongeBob sings the Krusty Krab Pizza song, while Squidward angrily walks on.

The final song played is the "Krusty Krab Pizza" song from "Pizza Delivery," which features SpongeBob and Squidward walking along the Bikini Bottom sands, with the former happily singing about the Krusty Krab Pizza with different voice inflections, as the latter angrily walks on in silence.

At the very end, SpongeBob is seen bowing to the audience. However, Squidward rudely bumps him over and prepares to play his clarinet, but the screen cuts off to a "technical difficulties" card, concluding the short.

Trivia[]

General[]

  • This short seems to serve as a special standalone short for the rest of the series, (akin to say, "The SpongeBob SportsPants Countdown Special" is to season 12) as it is heavily composed of reused footage. Further proving this is that its placing on the official Pineapple Playhouse playlist, which lists it below all of the other shorts released rather than in-between "Bossy Boots: Puppet Edition!" and "Chocolate with Nuts: Puppet Edition!" It also uses a subtitle labeling it "Best SpongeBob Songs" rather than giving it an episode number.
  • Returning to the topic of subtitles, this is the final short to utilize one, as every short following this one would just feature the Pineapple Playhouse logo.
  • This is the first short to recreate moments from outside of the first three seasons, as the song "Gary Come Home" originates from season 4, specifically "Have You Seen This Snail?"
  • This short is also known as "Gary Goes Missing IRL! 😢 | SpongeBob Music Videos with Puppets" on the SpongeBob YouTube channel, "Pineapple Playlist: Best SpongeBob Songs" with its subtitle, and simply the codename "PineapplePlaylist" or "pineappleplaylist" production wise, as seen on Garrett Beltis' website.[4]

Cultural references[]

  • The title of the short is a pun on the short series' title, Pineapple Playhouse.
