"Pineapple Invasion" is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season 9. In this episode, SpongeBob hides the Krabby Patty secret formula in his home, and Gary must protect it from Plankton.

Characters[]

Synopsis[]

At the Chum Bucket, Plankton sits on a blanket-covered wagon, preparing for another attempt to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula. Karen flicks the wagon into the Krusty Krab, where Plankton pulls the blanket off to reveal a skunk he named Mr. Stinky. The customers fawn over the skunk, thinking he is a cat. Plankton intentionally sets Mr. Stinky off by scaring him with a bee. While Plankton is unaffected by the resulting foul odor due to not having a nose, all of the customers, Squidward, SpongeBob, and Mr. Krabs frantically leave the Krusty Krab due to the stink.

Mr. Krabs knows that Plankton is inside the Krusty Krab alone and takes one of SpongeBob's arms to use as a nose plug before heading inside. In Mr. Krabs' office, Plankton is surrounding the safe with dynamite, and the detonation reveals that the safe has another safe inside. Mr. Krabs crushes Plankton with his fists, and SpongeBob, with one of his own legs plugging his nose, tosses Plankton out the window with a spatula. Mr. Stinky is removed from the restaurant by the HAZMAT Unit and placed in a basket with balloons attached. People cheer as it briefly floats him toward the surface, but with too few balloons, it drifts him back down to Bikini Bottom, where people run away due to the smell. Worried Plankton will return, Mr. Krabs wants SpongeBob to take the secret formula home with him while he makes adjustments to his safe. The two of them do not know Plankton is listening to everything with his severed antenna.

Later, at closing time, SpongeBob tries to sneak home with the formula but is greeted by Plankton, who hints that he knows he has the secret formula while SpongeBob fails to hide it and nervously excuses himself to go home. The next morning, SpongeBob talks to Gary, entrusting the safety of the secret formula to him. Plankton is spying on them and watches SpongeBob leave. Plankton then disguises himself as a door-to-door salesman selling snail products. Gary closes the door on him and Plankton angrily walks off. Moments later, Plankton is disguised as a Sweetie Patrol Girl and tries to sell cookies to Gary, but Gary places the sofa Plankton is sitting on outside. Plankton throws down the cookies in a fit of anger, getting blown up as a result, and makes a mental note that nitroglycerin is not a good substitute for vanilla extract.

Plankton finds something familiar.

Plankton finally manages to get inside SpongeBob's house by distracting Gary with a fake cut-out of himself outside the window. In search of the secret formula, Plankton tears up SpongeBob's house until Gary catches him in an elaborate trap and confronts him. Gary beats him up until Plankton escapes into Gary's shell, thinking the secret formula is inside. Gary's eyeball chases Plankton through mazes within his shell. When SpongeBob comes home, he is horrified by the condition of his house and prized possessions but glad that the secret formula is safe where he left it, on top of his television in plain sight. SpongeBob notices something is wrong with Gary and takes him to the vet. Inside Gary's shell, Plankton makes it to the center of the shell and grabs what he thinks is the secret formula but is actually an old grocery list of SpongeBob's. The vet remarks that Plankton is hallucinating due to the fumes inside Gary's shell, which he would have detected if he had a nose. Plankton still celebrates and runs off into the sunset with what he still believes to be the secret formula.

Production[]

Vincent Waller confirmed this episode on Twitter on May 17, 2016.[2]

Waller shared the story of this episode's production on SpongeBuddy Mania: "This episode started out as a board driven show. It was from idea of Marc Ceccerelli's. When we first took over the show, he thought he'd be able to board it a little here and a little there, throughout the season. But we ended up doing quite a lot of rewriting on the final season 9 shows, leaving him very little spare time to continue boarding P.I. But luckily for us, he did have time enough to do the skunk intro, as well as inspirational drawings of the Plankton vs Gary fight scenes. Kaz and Fred did a great job of picking up the ball and running with it, fleshing out lots of great moments for our viewing pleasure."[1]
