Perch Perkins is a famous field reporter who works for the Bikini Bottom News. He and the Realistic Fish Head are coworkers and good friends; Perch reports news live on the scene, while the Realistic Fish Head stays in the newsroom and acts as a newsreader.
Perch was first introduced in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, where he has a purple color scheme. He later became a supporting character in the main series. In the show, he debuted in the season 4 episode "Once Bitten." He was recolored orange from this episode until "Squid Plus One," after which his orange model is used interchangeably with his purple one; Dave Cunningham explained on July 16, 2020, "We bounce back-and-forth between colors. There was never any decision made; just two different colors for no reason at all. There is no rhyme or reason to it. Sometimes we have him orange, sometimes we have him purple."[1]
Description
Perch Perkins is usually a purple fish who wears a dark purple coat and silver headphones. He wears a black wig but still appears to have black hair on either sides of his head which means that he is balding rather than being entirely bald.[2]
From "Once Bitten" until "Squid Plus One," Perch was always colored light orange with a reddish-brown coat. This color scheme is also used interchangeably with the purple one in various episodes. In the book Ice-Cream Dreams and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie game, Perch is colored green. He also wears a white undershirt and a red tie, and has dark purple lips.

Perch interviews Mr. Krabs about the opening of the Krusty Krab 2 while Plankton is jealous that Perch is interviewing Mr. Krabs. He later interviews Plankton when he starts selling Krabby Patties at the Chum Bucket with a free bucket helmet offer.
"Once Bitten"
He reports on the Mad Snail Disease outbreak, where he interviews Squidward and Incidental 105 and then tells the Bikini Bottomites they are all doomed thanks to Gary.
"It Came from Goo Lagoon"
He is seen asking beach-goers about what they think of all the goo bubbles, as well as asking Sandy to get all the information about the dangerous bubble.
"Frozen Face-Off"
Johnny Elaine and Perch Perkins announce on the news that a sled race is occurring in Bikini Bottom with the prize being one million dollars and that all of Bikini Bottom has entered.
"Chum Fricassee"
He promotes the Le Chum Bucket.
"Plankton Retires"
Perch and the Bikini Bottom News interview Plankton about his evil scheme to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula.
"Cave Dwelling Sponge"
He is the narrator of the episode. He narrates a story about the caveman Spongy Spongy causing a rampage in the town, which causes SpongeBob to get put in jail for no reason.
