Perch Perkins

Character

Perch Perkins is a famous field reporter who works for the Bikini Bottom News. He and the Realistic Fish Head are coworkers; Perch reports news live on the scene, while the Realistic Fish Head stays in the newsroom and acts as a newsreader.

Perch was created as a new character for The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, in which he is seen with a purple color scheme. He later became a supporting character in the main series. In the show, he debuted in the season 4 episode "Once Bitten." He was recolored orange from this episode until "Squid Plus One" because of a "firewall" between Nickelodeon and Paramount content. This resulted in assets from the movie, such as Perch's original color scheme, not being able to be used until 2015, when the wall was lifted.^[1] Despite this, Perch is still orange in the 2017 episode "Goodbye, Krabby Patty?" due to it starting production much earlier.

Description

Perch Perkins is usually a purple fish who wears a dark purple coat and silver headphones. He wears a purplish-black wig but still appears to have purplish-black hair on either sides of his head which means he is balding. From "Once Bitten" until "Squid Plus One," as well as in the video game Nicktoons MLB, Perch is colored light orange with a reddish-brown coat. In the book Ice-Cream Dreams, Perch is colored green. He also has a white undershirt and a red tie, and has dark purple lips.

History

Perch debuts in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, in which he interviews Mr. Krabs about the opening of the Krusty Krab 2. Plankton is jealous that Perch is interviewing Mr. Krabs. He later interviews Plankton when he sells Krabby Patties and doesn't appear again after this.

He is also seen in "It Came from Goo Lagoon" as a reporter asking beach-goers about what they think of all the goo bubbles, as well as asking Sandy to get all the information about the dangerous bubble.
