Brief Summary:

Mr. Krabs attempts to take a penny from SpongeBob, which was actually a peppermint flavored gum then a 500 dollar bill.

Plot

While at a discount store one day, Mr. Krabs spotted SpongeBob picking something up, and Mr. Krabs thought it was a perfectly good penny, but he decided it was JUST A PENNY, so he forces himself to forget about it. But on the way home from town he keeps having visions of pennies, and he tells himself that he has GOT to have that penny or it will drive him right into the ground. The next day he asks SpongeBob if he found anything, only for SpongeBob to reply that he found a brand new day, not a Penny. Time and time again he tries to crack SpongeBob to give him the Penny, until finally he builds a theater behind the Krusty Krab, and he makes admission a penny, so he will get SpongeBob's penny, but he does not have one, so in frustration he destroys the theatre. Mr. Krabs decides he will have a show at the Krusty krab, to show how he does not have a penny, but SpongeBob still does not have one, so Mr. Krabs breaks. Later, he breaks into SpongeBob's house with a metal detectar to find the penny, and when SpongeBob comes in, he shows him it was not a penny, but a chewed up piece of gum, for his gum collection, Mr. Krabs leaves and SpongeBob discovers that it was a 500 dollar bill, meanwhile Mr. Krabs is still digging for the penny, all over Bikini Bottom.

Trivia/Goofs

• In the German version of this episode, the episode is called Ohne einen Penny, which means "Without a Penny".
• Whatever Mr. Krabs saw that Spongebob picked up, it was brown. In the end, Spongebob revealed that it was "chewed up gum," which was green.
• The episode title comes from the term, "Penny Wise, Pound Foolish".
• The movie posters that Krabs had on the wall were "Love", "Scary", "Buddies", "Hero", and "Kids".
• When Mr. Krabs was looking at SpongeBob pick up the "penny". He was out of the line, though when he is told by the cashier that he is holding the line, he is right back at line.
• The clerk already scanned a few items inside Mr. Krabs' grocery basket, after she asked for the price check on one item, the next scene; the other items are inside Mr. Krabs' grocery basket again.
• SpongeBob at first was seen picking up something which appeared to be a penny, but later he showed us that he picked up a $500 bill.
• SpongeBob keeps a dried up gum collection, which is similar to Gummy.
• SpongeBob's brain squirts him but yet in The Battle of Bikini Bottom he hates getting squirted with cerebrospinal fluid.
• This episode has the same title card music as Nautical Novice and these episodes are paired together.
• Oddly, Mr. Krabs spends a lot more than one penny to get SpongeBob's penny.
• Squidward is more moody in this episode.
• When Mr. Krabs is complaining about the penny, the people in another car see him and he appears to be swearing by saying the words from Sailor Mouth. He does the same thing at the movie theater.
• When Mr Krabs is watching SpongeBob leave the pineapple, the door is left open but when Mr. Krabs goes into the house the door is closed and he opens it.
• Before the Krusty Krab Charity night, SpongeBob was outside and it was bright outside, but when he goes back in, its dark.
• since krabs tried using ALOT of coupons at the discount store, he may only buy groceries when he has enough coupons to get it all free.and since all of his coupons expired over 30 years ago,that may show he went totally money and ego crazy at least about over 30 year ago. However, this is not true as proven in Krusty Krab training video and Friend or Foe that he took a love for money when he was just a child
• Mr. Krabs said he never had a penny, however in many episodes he has pennies.
