"Patrick's Got a Zoo Loose" is a The Patrick Star Show episode from season 1. In this episode, a shape-shifting alien runs loose in the Star home.

Characters[]

Synopsis[]

The episode begins with Patrick interviewing Nosferatu and advertising his play. Slappy takes Nosferatu away, and the next guest is Space Rube. He comes from Saturn with some of his alien animals. The first, a Fluff, is a small ball that sucks Patrick's vital fluids out. A dinosaur-like alien called a Boggy Ecto eats the Fluff, and Squidina revives Patrick with a drop of water. Next, Rube brings in a green creature that he eats himself for lunch.

Alien-hunter Patrick blasts a laser at the shapeshifter.

A monstrous green alien called an Enigma Shapeshifter gets loose and runs around the house. Rube tells Patrick that he has to be an alien space hunter to track it down. Patrick takes up the role himself in an action show send-up, with Squidina being his damage-controlling attorney.

The alien sneaks into Bunny's kitchen and disguises itself as a toaster. Bunny realizes something is off when the toaster responds perfectly, as it usually fights her. Patrick blasts the alien with his laser gun, and it runs away. His laser blasts holes in the kitchen, so Squidina gives Bunny a check for "50 free hugs" as compensation. She uses the toaster again, and it launches her head off, although she is just relieved that everything is back to normal there.

After a run-in with Cecil in the hallway, Squidina gives him a check. Cecil goes onto the show with Space Rube and shows it off. Patrick crashes into GrandPat, who has traded places with the alien to avoid needing to interact with his family. He scares it away, with Squidina giving him another check for foot rubs.

The Enigma Shapeshifter corners Patrick.

Patrick blasts furniture around in the living room, but cannot find the alien. He sees a kitchen chair hopping by and follows it, but it disguises itself among five identical chairs. Patrick destroys all of them, but cannot find the right one. He collapses backwards onto the kitchen table, but it turns out that the alien is beneath the tablecloth. It flings Patrick backwards into the fridge and advances on him.

Squidina shows up and dares the shapeshifter into turning into various different forms. The final one is an ice cream cone, which Patrick swallows whole. Patrick goes back onto the show and Rube thanks him again. Rube bids the audience farewell, but turns into an alien as well. The audience and guests do, too. Patrick shrugs, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!" and turns into an alien himself.

Trivia[]

General[]

  • This episode was initially titled "Patrick's Got an Alien Zoo Loose." The only difference is that the word "alien" was pulled from the title, and the word "an" is replaced with "a."
  • This is the final episode to be script-driven. Starting with "The Patterfly Effect," episodes onward would be storyboard-driven.

Episode references[]

  • Squidina tries to keep the caged aliens away with a flyswatter. She learns how to use one in "Klopnodian Heritage Festival."
  • Bunny says that whenever she tries to use the toaster, it always fights her. This refers to her feud with it in "Enemies à la Mode."

Cultural references[]

  • When Patrick punches the chair-formed shape-shifting alien into tons of tiny rocking chairs, his arm shape is akin to that of Popeye.
