"Pat-per Route" is a The Patrick Star Show episode from season 3. In this episode, Patrick helps Squidward with his newspaper delivery job to compensate for injuring him.

Characters[]

Synopsis[]

Pat-per Route 032

The little girl with dynamite in Squidward's mouth.

Patrick is watching a Safe T. Snail cartoon, which suddenly goes into a message about "dynamite-hurling maniacs" that could potentially live near the viewer, showing an illustration of one who looks like Squidward. When Squidward passes by on his bike to deliver the paper, Patrick thinks it is dynamite and throws it back at him. Squidward dodges it, but hits the front tire against a rock and falls down a hill. He crashes into a little girl's lemonade stand, and she gives him lemonade that is full of dynamite, making him explode.

At the Bikini Bottom Hospital, Squidward is left injured and is prescribed bed rest by a doctor. However, Squidward wants to continue his route to win the Golden Lobber award for paper delivery. When Patrick hears, he reveals he was in disguise as the doctor, feeling regret and wanting to make it up to Squidward. He offers to finish the route with him, and Squidward reluctantly accepts.

Patrick goes around with a shopping cart full of undelivered papers, with Squidward riding in it. He demonstrates how to throw a paper, but his arm is injured, so he misses. Patrick imitates it and throws papers through everyone's windows, causing chaos. Squidward, however, appreciates his efficiency and lets him keep going.

After a few more deliveries, they come to Lady Upturn's mansion. Squidward stops Patrick and says that he will not get the trophy if he fails to deliver this, due to Upturn's high standards. Patrick makes a throw, and to Squidward's surprise, Upturn is actually impressed and calls Patrick the best paperboy ever. Wondering about this, Squidward gives Patrick a test with something he has never been able to do himself: getting Cecil to pay back his newspaper money.

Patrick does not know he is going after Cecil, mistaking him for a copycat. Cecil refuses to pay and escapes into the kitchen, throwing food and then the entire fridge at Patrick and Squidward. He escapes into a hatch, and when Patrick follows him, he ends up in a hall of mirrors where Cecil's face reflects and taunts him. Patrick throws a paper to shatter the mirrors, revealing they are in the basement. Squidward demands his 75 cent payment, which Cecil gives him.

Pat-per Route 175

The Newspaper King arrives.

They leave the house, only for the Newspaper King to arrive to hand out the Golden Lobber trophy. Although Squidward thinks he will get it, it is handed to Patrick instead. Patrick attributes his success to Squidward, splitting the trophy in half to hand it to Squidward. Squidward realizes he can win the rest of the trophy next year while accepting that Patrick won it, and Patrick, in return, calls him next year's best paper boy. The two ride on Squidward's bike to chase down Cecil. It turns out the Cecil they robbed really was a copycat, as many other Cecil copies begin appearing.
