Synopsis[]
Mr. Krabs announces the annual Kamp Koral art contest. Any cabin can participate and make a piece of art within 8 hours, and the winner will hang in Krabs' office. Squidward is determined for his cabin to win, and judges their art pieces. SpongeBob makes a sponge painting, Sandy shows blueprints, and Patrick has a napkin with paint splattered on it. Unimpressed, Squidward tells the campers that he will teach them to be good artists.
For his first lesson, Squidward has his cabinmates paint a bowl of fruit. However, Patrick eats it before they can finish. Next, he has Narlene model for the students. Nobby spits berries at her from behind a bush, upsetting her balance and distracting the students. Squidward demands that she leave, and when he models instead, Narlene and Nobby shoot berries at him. Squidward spins rapidly and twists himself up, which the cabinmates all imitate, to his displeasure.
Next, Squidward gives his students balls of modeling clay. He tries to show off his own sculpture, but Nobby has already rearranged it. Sandy builds a clay volcano, SpongeBob's statue of himself collapses, and Patrick makes a good piece of art, but then swallows it. Squidward sadly goes back to the cabin and says that he will not be able to win the contest. Sandy gets the idea to build a machine that makes art, but Squidward rejects it. Sandy, Patrick, and SpongeBob still agree on the idea.
A few minutes before the art show, Squidward is demotivated, but his other cabinmates encourage him to show up. Perch announces the concept, and a disinterested Krabs quickly shrugs off all the art he is presented. When it comes time for Squidward's cabin, Sandy unveils a large machine. Sandy pours in a bunch of art supplies, and it generates a portrait of the Mona Lisa styled like Krabs, which he likes.
An upset Squidward comes on-stage and complains that, since the art was machine-made, it has no soul. As he walks, he slips on a painting that Pearl is making. He falls into the machine, and the other artists panic and throw their respective pieces in. When Krabs throws his painting in, the machine stops and one last item comes out: a solid frame with Squidward's body inside. On the condition that it is the only piece left, Krabs awards it the winner and hangs Squidward in his office, who exclaims, "Art with a soul!"

Trivia[]
General[]
- This episode was initially scheduled to premiere on June 26, 2023 at 5:00pm on Nickelodeon, but was pulled for encores of "Mandatory Music" and "Friendiversary."[4]
- The date of the art contest is July 9, which is also the day that The Patrick Star Show premiered.
Episode references[]
- When Squidward's pupils turn into blue ribbons and explode, the explosion effect is the same one from "Dream Hoppers."
- The ending to this episode is similar to "Out of the Picture," where a character ends up being framed as an art piece.
- The glasses Squidward wears when judging the campers' art are similar to the ones he wore a year earlier in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.
- The painting of Squidward that SpongeBob makes in this episode appears in "Friendiversary."
- Frames from this episode are later used in "Friendiversary" when SpongeBob remembers Squidward.
- Squidward teaching SpongeBob how to be an artist is similar to "Artist Unknown."
Cultural references[]
- Many famous artists and their iconic works are referenced in this episode:
- SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy's paintings of Squidward resemble the styles of painters Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso, and Wassily Kandinsky, respectively.
- The sculpture of Larry is a reference to the Ancient Greek sculpture Discobolus of Myron.
- Kidferatu paints a self portrait which parodies The Scream by Edvard Munch.
- Kevin's painting parodies the "comic strip" style of Roy Lichtenstein.
- An anchovy's painting parodies the style of Andy Warhol.
- Sandy's machine creates a portrait of Krabs which parodies the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci.
- Nobby carves out a statue of Squidward that is a 3D version of one of Kaz's Underworld-esque Squidward drawings.
Errors[]
- When Narlene disrobes, SpongeBob's pants and Sandy's blouse are not textured. This most likely a mistake by the animators having forgotten to texture and colored the Sandy's blouse and SpongeBob's pants by accident.
