The painted parrot is the Captain's pet parrot who appears at the beginning of the show's opening sequence.

Description

The parrot is painted to look like a realistic parrot. It is mostly green with a yellow belly, black eyes, a black beak, and has some white color its face. It lies on the shoulder of the Captain.

History

Counting the opening sequence, the painted parrot appears in every episode of the series, as well as in the second film.

In the book Oh, Barnacles!, the Captain reveals that his parrot is very mischievous and loves to play games, but often cheats to win. He also says that he and his parrot have been stuck inside of a painting for multiple years.

In the book Blizzard Bluster!: SpongeBob's Book of Frosty Funnies, the Captain says that his parrot once went to an ice skating rink to play "ice squawky."

Trivia

The bird did not appear in the theme song for the TV movie "Truth or Square."
