At the crack of dawn, Sandy calls SpongeBob and asks if he can come to her science presentation tonight, and SpongeBob says yes. "Well, that's an unusual getup."

At 6:00 PM, the Krusty Krab closes and SpongeBob heads over to Sandy's treedome. Before he can help Sandy, he goes to Mr. Krabs' house and discovers that he needs a right-angled motorized hex drill. He goes to Tom's Toolery, but it is closed due to Porpoise Day. SpongeBob remembers Sandy using a motorized hex drill and tries to go back to Sandy's, but bumps into Patrick and remembers that he needs to buy Patrick's cake.

After buying a cake, he goes to Patrick's rock, but Patrick says he wants a gift as well. He goes back to Sandy's treedome and gets the motorized hex drill, but Sandy finds him and tells him she wants to test her new invention on him. She has him remove all his clothes and wear a cyan gown. After SpongeBob runs over to Patrick's house and gives the drill, he goes back to Sandy, steps into her invention and takes off the gown.

Just as Sandy is about to test it out, SpongeBob runs over to Mr. Krabs' house completely naked and hastily assembles the telescope. Mr. Krabs asks where the drill is, so SpongeBob goes back to Patrick, but Patrick will not open his present until he gets cake. SpongeBob runs back to the treedome to fetch the cake; once he is there, Sandy, Mr. Krabs, and Patrick start fighting over who needs his help the most.

SpongeBob interrupts their quarrel and explains himself, saying that he could not say no to any of his friends because they are all important to him, and the other put in his problem would've been solved sooner if he had just told them about what was going on. He apologizes again for thinking he could do three things at once, but Sandy tells him that he can. Her invention turns out to be a cloning machine, which produces two clones of SpongeBob. However, SpongeBob is so exhausted from all of the running he did that he falls asleep in the invention, ending the episode.

Trivia[]

General[]

  • This episode takes place on August 17, Patrick's birthday, which is celebrated in the episode.
Overbooked 014

Sandy yelling at SpongeBob through the split-screen.

  • Sandy breaks the fourth wall when she crosses over the split-screen to yell at SpongeBob during their call.
    • The fourth wall is also broken right before she crossed the split-screen when she looked directly at the camera with an annoyed face.
  • This is the first episode in which Mr. Krabs visits Sandy's treedome.
  • According to this episode, workers in Bikini Bottom are given "employee report cards" at certain times of the year, and if they have not met all the necessary requirements, they are fired from their current job.
  • The cake SpongeBob gets for Patrick has the words "Sorry about the scabies" written on it in icing. Scabies is a skin disease in humans where mites burrow into the skin and cause a rash. Casey Alexander wrote, in a May 2014 Twitter reply later deleted, "I'm allowed to make the scabies joke 'cause it comes from personal experience. My 10 year old self was delighted w/ that one."[2]
  • The online games Tasty Pastry Party, Sandy's Sponge Stacker, and Krab's Astrolab are based on this episode. Tasty Pastry Party centers on Patrick's birthday party, Sandy's Sponge Stacker centers on Sandy's cloning machine, and Krab's Astrolab centers on Mr. Krabs' telescope.
  • This is the first episode in which SpongeBob is cloned. The second is "CopyBob DittoPants."
  • This is the first episode in which "Hawaiian Misadventures B" plays without the steel guitar. The second is "Extreme Spots."
  • This is the third episode an apology cake is shown. The first was in "Squidville," and the second was in "Good Neighbors."
  • This was the last episode in airing order to premiere during Nickelodeon's 1984-2009 Splat era, the last episode to use the 2008 Nickelodeon Productions at the end, if not counting Truth or Square which aired after the 2009 rebrand, as well as the last episode to use the Nickelodeon Splat logo until "Ma and Pa's Big Hurrah" almost 14 years later.
  • This is Sandy's only major role in season 6.
  • The title card for this episode is similar to the one of "Naughty Nautical Neighbors," except it is orange instead of yellow, and is stretched out.
  • SpongeBob could've just ripped himself apart to clone himself for the extra tasks.

Cultural references[]

  • The store "Tom's Toolery" is a play on the word "tomfoolery."
  • Sandy's invention ending in 2000 is similar to Wow Wow Wubbzy when Widgit's inventions would end in 3000.

Errors[]

Overbooked 148

Sandy's missing tail.

  • When Patrick's rock first opens, his party hat is red, but in the next scene, his party hat changes to purple.
  • When Sandy says, "Without further delay, I shall initiate the protosequence," her tail is missing.
Overbooked 176

Mr. Krabs wearing a water helmet.

  • Sandy says that her cloning machine can give a person the productivity of up to eight workers. However, the knob on the machine indicates that it can only produce three clones at a time, so really it can only give a person the productivity of four workers.
  • Mr. Krabs wears a water helmet while in Sandy's treedome. This is incorrect as crabs can breathe out of water.
  • When SpongeBob falls asleep at the very end of the episode, one of his hands is inside his water helmet.
  • In the Welsh dub, Aaron Springer and Dani Michaeli are both listed as writers of this episode in the opening credits, even though neither of them wrote the episode. Springer is also erroneously listed as a storyboard director.

  • When SpongeBob is entering the Krusty Krab, both the Chum Bucket and its pathway leading to it are missing.
  • Before SpongeBob walks away to get a cake, his left leg is white for a split second.
