The Orb of Confusion is one of the weapons owned by Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy. It first appears in the episode "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy III."
Description[]
This weapon has a built-in switch that, if flipped, will make anyone in a certain radius very confused, hence its title. The confusion is also accompanied with "duh" noises and salivation from the mouth and tongue. It also gives off a ripple effect.
Role in series[]
"Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy III"[]
At the beginning of the episode, SpongeBob accidentally gets confused from touching the switch, but he is stopped by Mermaid Man who warns him that prolonged exposure to the Orb of Confusion would give him permanent confusion.
Later, SpongeBob and Patrick attempt to use the Orb of Confusion to stop Man Ray from wreaking havoc, only to use it on themselves when SpongeBob flips the switch.
Later, Man Ray turns it off and reveals his redemption prior to leaving. However, even though SpongeBob returned to normal, Patrick continued to be confused (this confirmed Mermaid Man's warning to SpongeBob from earlier).
The Yellow Avenger[]
Mermaid Man gives SpongeBob a mission to destroy the Orb of Confusion by melting it in the powerful toxic waste at the Industrial Park.
SpongeBob's Truth or Square[]
It briefly appears in the level "Meeting MMM and BB!!!"
Trivia[]
- According to Mermaid Man, when one is expose to the orb for too long, they would be permanently confusion, and even though Patrick was expose to the orb and became confused, SpongeBob should have been the one who should be permanently confusion since he was expose first to the Orb when he turned it on while in the cave.
