Synopsis[]
While eating pancakes for dinner, Bunny reveals that Cecil has gotten a new job (GrandPat says it's the fifth one he's had this week) as a security guard at Upturn's museum. After finishing his meal, he roller skates to the museum, with Upturn telling him to guard the place, over-dramatically telling Cecil the family horrors it took to build the collection. When Upturn tells him to not let anyone in, Cecil throws everyone out of the joint along with Upturn, who falls flat Wile E. Coyote-style and utters her catchphrase ("I am offended!")
Back at home, Pat realizes that Cecil forgot his special security guard underwear, wanting to bring it back to him. Before Bunny can let him go, she dresses Patrick up as a robber and accidentally tells him how to frighten everyone. Elsewhere, Cecil continues to mess up the museum's art and sculptures, up until Patrick gets to the museum, leaving the bus with all of the fish in it scared out of their minds. Patrick tries to find a way in, and when pulling on the handles won't work, he looks towards a bush with a rock in it. A key then drops out of that rock, for which Patrick throws straight into the glass doors, causing the security breach alarm to go off.
Cecil takes notice of this while cleaning a painting of George Washington's wooden teeth, and looks for the burglar. He crashes into a bucket of paint on a ladder, which drops onto his head; he throws the bucket off, with some white paint on his face still remaining. Patrick and Cecil cross paths while looking for each other, and they confuse each other as a "ghost" and a burglar respectively. They get into a manic chase, even breaking the laws of logic and jumping through paintings. Patrick is eventually tired of hiding, and attempts to stop all of this by setting up a trap for Cecil, which causes the guard to land straight on the floor. Patrick confronts him from the top of a large sculpture, and the two get into a big brawl and create more destruction. After smashing 12 paintings into Pat's head, Cecil realizes it was Patrick all along, and the two reconcile, with Patrick giving him the underwear Cecil deserves.
All of this happens to occur at the wrong time though, as it is now morning and Lady Upturn comes back to her museum. Appalled at the damage they've caused, she forces the two to physically "replace" the paintings they've destroyed. Despite this, the two suffice well, with Cecil even using the security guard underwear as a form of censorship in the sculpture he replaced.

Art[]
- Art direction by Marta Knudsen, designed by Aaron Painter, painted by Chu-Hui Song.[7]
Background design[]
- Art direction by Marta Knudsen, layout by Tim Allen, and traditionally painted by Amy Lewis with line and edits drawn digitally on top.[2]
Storyboards[]
- Rough boarded by Gabe Del Valle[8] and Mike Pelensky,[9][10] plussed Amanda Donahue and other storyboard artists on Tim Prendergast's team.[3]
Production notes[]
Tim Prendergast:
- Prendergast said it was a "Very special episode, with an unbelievable amount of care poured into it, and one of my personal favorites. Shoutout to our excellent board artists, and another to our amazingly talented BG crew who made masterpieces out of every set, with Marta Knudsen leading the charge."[5]
Chris DeRose:
- DeRose said he "had a lot of fun with [this episode's character] designs"[1] and had "a blast working on it."[11]
Gabe Del Valle:
- Del Valle "[loved] going to art museums so this [episode] was a real fun one to figure out! The plussing team went ham on the paintings in the backgrounds and snuck in a lotta Easter eggs."[8]
Mike Pelensky:
- Pelensky gave "mad props to the plussing and BG teams on this one."[9]
Amanda Donahue:
- One gag that was cut from her boards to the final animation was Squidina and Patrick giving Cecil a kiss as he goes off to work. Donahur said it was "too bad," as she "liked the gag of everyone giving him a big smooch on the cheek".[3]
- Donahue said that "plussing was an absolute BEAST on this episode." "Part of what [the storyboard artists] had to do was come up with all of the other pieces of art throughout the museum that wasn't already called out for specific gags. [They] also had to make sure [they] tracked the lighting in all the scenes on the characters. With all of that [she was] so happy with how the paintings all turned out".[3]

Trivia[]
General[]
- This episode's premiere, alongside the other three in its premiere week were simulcasted on Nicktoons.[12] Due to Nicktoons' spacings of commercial breaks, the episode effectively debuted on that network first.
- This episode's title is a pun on the phrase "now you see 'em, now you don't."
- This episode was originally titled "Now You Museum, Now You Don't."
- This episode was initially supposed to premiere on August 22, 2023 at 1:00pm, later 5:00pm, but was later pulled to November 7 of the same year for unknown reasons.
- On its new date, it was originally going to premiere at 5:00pm, but it was moved to 4:00pm.
- Patrick previously dressed up like a burglar in "Ain't That the Tooth" and "Patrick's Prison Pals."
- This episode is similar to season 12's "Insecurity Guards." Both episodes are focused on at least one character serving as a security guard unknowingly causing destruction on the job, with rampant burglary occurring and gags mainly focusing on the tooling of iconic paintings and sculptures.
- In both this episode and its sister, members of the Star family wreak constant, unintentional havoc. While in "Super Stars," it is eventually embraced as villainy, Patrick and Cecil get punishment for their actions in this segment at the end.
- This episode was accidentally listed on Prime Video Canada on August 20, 2023, along with its sister episode.[13]
- Patrick also mistakes Cecil for a ghost in "The Haunting of Star House." In both episodes, this is accompanied by a visual of Patrick's pupils transforming into a ghost or screaming eyes.
Cultural references[]
- The new title for this episode shares a same name with a The Simpsons episode from 2020.
- Also a Timon and Pumbaa episode from 1999.
- In the plussed storyboards, the front page of GrandPat's newspaper reads "Evening Herald 1912 - Titanic sets sail with new captain".[3]
- When Cecil throws Lady Upturn out of her high-storied museum, her long fall references how Wile E. Coyote would fall off a cliff in Chuck Jones' series of Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner shorts from Looney Tunes. Upturn even crashes onto the floor with a similar sound effect to the Coyote's.
- Several iconic works of art are parodied[9] in this episode, both prominently and in the background:
- The Marilyn Diptych by Andy Warhol.
- The Son of Man by René Magritte.
- The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai.
- La maja vestida and Saturn Devouring His Son by Francisco Goya.
- Arrangement in Grey and Black No. 1 by James McNeill Whistler.
- The Creation of Adam and David by Michelangelo.
- Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci.
- Venus de Milo by Alexandros of Antioch.
- Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer.

- Nighthawks by Edward Hopper.
- The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dalí.
- The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli.
- Composition VIII by Wassily Kandinsky.
- Atlas by Lee Lawrie.[1]
This list is incomplete, but you can help Encyclopedia SpongeBobia by expanding it.
- The "security breach" sign references the 2021 first-person survival horror game Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach.[14]
- The seahorse balloon is inspired by Jeff Koons' work, crossing that influence with the franchise's own portrayal of sea horses.[1]
