Nicktoons Racing is a Nickelodeon racing game for the PlayStation, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color, and PC. It was also released as an arcade cabinet.

Plot

Characters from various Nickelodeon franchises come together for a race to win the Krusty Krab Big Bun Award.

Reception

While the PS1 and PC were never reviewed, the game was received mix to positive reviews. IGN received the Gameboy Advance version a 8/10, while the Game Boy Color version received a 3/10.[5]

Trivia

  • Most versions of this game have backwards compatibility.
    • The PS1 version can be played on all PS2 and PS3 units.
    • The PC version can be played on older computer units.
    • The GBA version can be played on all DS and DS Lite units.
    • The GBC version can be played on all Game Boy Advance/Game Boy Advance SP units.
    • The arcade version does not have backwards compatibility.
  • This is the first store-bought merchandise of the SpongeBob SquarePants series.
    • This is also the first video game SpongeBob appeared in.
  • Mr. Krabs and Pearl's house appears in the Game Boy Color version.
  • Sandy's treedome appears in the PC and arcade version.
  • A sequel called Nicktoons Winners Cup Racing has been released and includes later Nicktoons characters, such as Danny Fenton from Danny Phantom, Timmy Turner from The Fairly OddParents, and Jimmy Neutron from The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, among others. There's also an arcade-only sequel entitled Nicktoons Nitro. Another sequel for video game consoles, Nickelodeon Kart Racers, was released in 2018, and Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix was released in 2020.
  • One of the dialogues the mystery rider says is "Come back here, you swine!"[6] However, the word swine is offensive in some countries.
  • The PS1 and PC versions have the same gameplay, while the Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color, and Arcade versions each have their own gameplay style.
  • SpongeBob SquarePants is the only Nicktoon featured in this game that still airs new episodes.
  • It is the first video game to ever feature SpongeBob, however, Legend of the Lost Spatula is the first game to revolve solely around the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise itself.
  • Software Creations also developed multiple Rugrats games.
    • That company became defunct in 2004.[7]
